The Wells High harriers of 1956 continued their usual fine showing by taking second place in the Southern York County League. Sparked by their captain, Philip Jamieson, Wells runners were able to pile up an excellent record of five victories, bowing only to Berwick High's powerful cross country team. State Champs or 7 Nine Years B57 Over the past nine years, Wells High School, with a co-educa- tional enrollment of only 166 pupils, has established an amazing track record and reputation. In keeping with this reputation was Wells' ninth victory in the state championship match at Colby College in June, 1956. Wells defeated the most closely competing Class S school, Berwick, by 31 and 112 points. Last May, Wells captured the Southem York County Meet by scoring a total of 60 points in all 13 events. Kennebunk, the closest Heaveq-10 rival, was 11 and 112 points behind. BUZZ ABBOTT '56 Wells took third place in the Suburban League Meet which in- cluded many Class L teams.
