To the faculty, we bequeath our appreciation for all their efforts and guidance in helping us to grow up. Now that this worst-of-all class is about to disband, the teachers will have no one to occupy their attention except our unfortunate successors. To our sponsor Mrs. Daniels, we express our thanks for the friendliness and help she has given us. Lee Armijo' s last wish is that Jimmy Sinnard have his superb physique. ' Tony Blehm would like to see Gordon Nutter get his ability as a speaker. Dorothy Davis leaves her ability to get to school at 9:30 to Imogene Fabricius. Better get here at 9:15, Imogene. To Kenneth Brunz, Elvin DeGabain leaves his ability to get his studies by fair means or foul. You'll need it. Zella Hautum would like for Mary Koon to receive her out- of-town romance. To Duane Ehrlich, Richard Heimbichner leaves his great ambition. To Jo Ann Elder goes Leata Johnson' s ability to get along with the teachers. Donald Mallett leaves his ability to argue with- the teach- ers to Janet Baker. Rex McCaulley wants to see Wayne Steffen get his ability to grow a beard. Barbara Newlun leaves her flaming temper to Darlene Pierson. Donna Schreiner thinks Pauline Robison could use her loud voice. It's all yours, Pauline. 1 Buddy Booth will have it easy next year because James Severe is giving him his alibis. Janice Severs leaves her giggle to Elowese Rice. It looks as though Jack Ahlbrandt will be taller next year because Bob Stieben leaves his long legs to him. Betty Wilson leaves her ability to get out of school on Thursday to Branson Ingold. Billy Coy, Victor Wolfe is leaving you his hobby of teas- ing girls. - 4 ,, ,,, n x i , 'a 1 5- , V3-i ., 1- 2 , , 4 7 ,TS x K y v N ' iulguz -1,3 V Q ,-. un. , R ,- mf a 9.4 x , . S x ' 'fu- 16 ff , K, L F SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY We shall travel ten years into the future a.nd look in on the 1949 seniors of Wellington High School. First we find Ja.mes Severs, one time billionaire, now in New York with only a million dollars to his name. He made his fortune sel.l.ing cotton candy on Coney Island. He lost it on women. Next along our journey we see Barbara Newlun, married to a farmer. She owns a tea room complete with red curtains, home- grown omelets and fried chicken. Bob Stieben is now political campaign manager and ghost writer for the President of the United States. We will tune in our radio and listen to Janice Severs and her two sisters. They have taken the place of the Andrew Sisters on radio, stage, and screen. We find Victor Wolfe, Jr. hard at work drawing up plans for 4-lane highway connecting the important city of Wellington to Washington, D. C. Donald Mallett, traveling salesman for Tinker, Inc., is on the road demonstrating trick gadgets and novelties. We shall go down to Texas, now, and there find Lawrence, Tony, Blehm, a rich cattle rancher. He is sole owner of the great Bar-Nothing Ranch. Richard Hei.mbichner is now a very successful portrait paint- er. All the society women who pose for him fall madly in love with him. This causes a lot of trouble between the painter a.nd his fourth wife. We will return to good old Wellington where we shall see Elvin DeGabain, head mechanic, in the Lincoln Highway Garage. Leata J ohnson, wealthy widow of the recent New York stock broker, J . D. Vandelhoofer, is national president of Federated Women' s Club. Donna Schreiner caught the eye of great Hollywood Producer, David O. Selznick. She is now his personal secretary in Holly- wood. Our next visit will be Denver. Here we find Lee Armijo, famous basketball player, playing for Denver Nuggets. Lee is drawing only 81,000 a week. He is considering a job as player for Globe Trotters. They offer him 551, 500 a week. We shall now hop over to Fort Collins and find a. great beauty operator, Dorothy Davis, working in Lloyds Beauty Shop. Women from all states come to her for new styles in hair-dress- ing. Next we take 'a long trip to Africa. Here we find the big game hunter, Rex McCaulley. He owns the lower half of the continent a.nd has turned it into a game refuge. What's this? Zella Hautum is runni.ng a. nursery for small children. She always was fond of young 'uns. Last but not least is Betty Wilson. She is living in New Orleans. She is married and has twelve beautiful children. 8. p:flfgn'2:kp1v m:u-wgrvzafwwsrxfI -f 1-my .,w-'7rsf:'wng22.7,':.yggfggy':52q:sSj,Zgwwnwg5fg.tQ' v J 5, -'mi Wwlif W5 ,wh ,. fl g .f ,.. . Under Mr. Eyestone's direction, assisted by Mrs. Shade, the Juniors sponsored the carnival. It was held in the Social Center as usual and we had quite a turnout. From this and other endeavors, a fund of about one hundred and fifty dollars was accumulated. Juniors sponsored the first dance of the season, and also sold ham-hot dogs, and pop at the Junior High Tournament. The Juniors received their class rings and are they beauties The Junior-Senior Banquet was held at Ladd's Covered wagon. It was really some affairg the theme used was nHitch Your Wagon to a Star.N It was a beautiful setting in the Senior colors of lavender and white. We are all looking forward to the all school picnic because it means lots of fun and the end of school for a while. 7? We're the Mighty Sophomores And as we toil along We think and watch and hope and pray That nothing will go wrong. We had all kinds of fun this year But as we write this page, The best of' all we liked to do was fix the Senior' s stage. At the beginning of school, committees were chosen to make seasonal decorations every six weeks for our room. We have had very attractive decorations for our room, especially for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. During the Christmas season, the seventh grade entertained the eight grade with a play and refreshments. We also had a valentine box and party. Ere:-HH emma Members of the class not pictured are Marilyn Schmer and Lela Kay LaMontine. Monte Davis has moved away. we feel we have made good progress under the careful gui- dance of our teachers. We appreciate the special interest our sponsor and teacher, Mr. Nutter, has taken in this class. A good t:i.me was had by all when the eighth grade enter- tained the seventh grade at a party. Our main ambition, of course, is to become ninth graders next year. Uqig x! ,Jf', 1- w .4-n a-and '?f? DRAMATICS The above scene from the '49 Senior Play, Little Miss Some- body, shows the pretty Cinderella heroine, Betty wilson, comfort- ing James Severs as Old Mike. He recovers from a.mnesia and proves to be her fond and wealtkv parent. Betty's selfish aunt is ably portrayed by Janice Seversg her generous uncle, Dr. John, by Lee Armijo. Victor Wolfe, young medical student, finally persuades Dorothy Davis to share the life of a country doctor. The harum- scarum son, Donald Mallett, his pretty girl friend, Barbara Newlun, and genial Elvin DeGabain who loses his fortune but gets his gal, are all well cast. Zella Ilautum again proves her ability in charac ter roles as Duffy, the maid. In the '48 play, Going On Seventeen, the title role was por- trayed admirably by Bob Stieben. Bob, Tony, and Dutch were three amateur sleuths who served up the comedy and nearly foiled the attempts of Bud wood, '48, the real detective, to solve the rrwstery Leata Johnson and Leon Baechler, '48, were convincing as father and mother. Rex McCaulley was the misguided bank clerk and had the not-too-difficult role of making love to Doris Stieben, 'Z,8. JoAnn Elder began a career as comedienne as the off-key housemaid. Barbara Severs, Dorothy Mallett, and Donna Schreiner played convincingly the parts of catty friends. Dorothy Davis performed well as the visiting friend. Carol Hatfield was perfect as the female lead. Through Mrs. Daniels' constant guidance and untiring efforts the plays were well given and successful. xfnsggl 2 f, gf, f-gg If V, :1 ' is. ' H . M. '11 21 3 FOOTBALL The Wellington Eagles started their six-man football season of 191.8 in a manner to which they had been unaccustomed in the last two years. After two weeks of hard work-outs the Eagles had a practice game with the Pierce Panthers. The ga.me proved to be a great upset, the Eagles losing 34-14. The next game found the Eagles back in their usual form. They journeyed to Waverly, there to trounce the Mustangs 27-13 in a thrilling encounter. The next trip was to Berthoud and the Eagles knocked them off in fine style, the score being 37- 23. The Eagles next had a practice game with Hudson, surprising themselves by romping over the Cowboys Al.-O. The Mustangs and Eagles collided on the 1atter's home field. Wellington came out on top 19-6. The second game with Berthoud was played in a high wind. After trailing the Spartans 12-6 at half-time, the Eagles came back to tie the score at 12-all. The last game of the season for the Eagles was the quarter- finals of the State Play-offs. Wellington was matched with Pierce, the game being played at Ault. The Eagles fell at the hands of the Panthers 32-6. The Panthers, the only team to defeat the Eagles in two seasons of play, went on to win the State Six-Man Champion- ship. The season ended with a minimum of casualities and the Eagles cinching the conference title. The Eagles defeated Windsor by one point at Wellington and in a later game lost their only game by three points to Windsor. After these practice games the Wellington tea.m was in shape for their first round of conference play. LaPorte, Estes Park, Lyons, Berthoud, Waverly, Timnath, all fell before the rapid-scor- ing and improving Eagles. I As the second round of play progressed, LaPorte, Estes Park, Lyons, and Waverly gave way to the victorious Eagles. During the game with Waverly the Eagles were behind, l7-ll at the half, but the team was ir1 no mood to have its record marred and the deal quickly changed to a nice lead for Wellington by the end of the third quarter, which was sustained to the finish. In mid-February, the Berthoud and Timnath games remained to be played to complete conference play. Under the faithful and untiring efforts of Coach Eyestone, the Eagles then eagerly looked forward to a conference champion- ship and participation in the district and state play-offs.
