GUIDANCE Joseph C. Spang Director of Guidance The Guidance Department, under the direction of Mr. Joseph Spang, has had an effect on the past, pres¬ ent, and future life of every Wellesley Senior. As Sophomores, as Juniors, and as Seniors, the Class of 1961 has sought and found in the Guidance Office solutions to academic, social, and personal problems of many kinds. On innumerable occasions, each of us has taken advantage of the open door policy which the Guidance Office maintains throughout the school year. As newcomers to Wellesley High, we found comfort and direction in the experience and wisdom of the Sophomore Guidance Office, currently headed by Miss Joyce Freitag. Wellesley’s wide range of course choices and levels presented additional problems which fur¬ ther complicated our adjustment to Senior High life. As “adjusted” Juniors, we found guidance and sol¬ Joyce J. Freitag Counselor ace in the offices of Mr. Spang and Miss Anna Craig. Their vast knowledge of course prerequisites, diffi¬ culty, and purpose, and their experience in adminis¬ tering and interpreting ability evaluations have influ¬ enced our growth greatly and directly. As career-panicked Seniors, we have drawn heavily on Guidance Office resources for counsel and sugges¬ tion. The roads away from Wellesley lead in so many different directions that we have been forced to ponder carefully the alternatives of our unlimited futures. Here, again, we have been able to rely upon the com¬ petence of our Guidance Department. Our class and our school would be hard-pressed to find sufficient expressions of thanks for our guidance. The Class of 1961, however, will demonstrate its ap¬ preciation through its future successes. Anna C. Craig Counselor
