ADMINISTRATION John B. Chafee Superintendent of Schools Katherine Bronson Assistant Principal The entire student body has benefited greatly from the experienced administra¬ tion of Mr. John Chaffee, Mr. Samuel Graves, and Miss Katherine Bronson. Their efforts and advice have guided us in making decisions about every phase of our school life. Through the dedication and wisdom of Mr. Chaffee, our Superintendent of Schools, and his staff, we have been exposed to educational instruction of the high¬ est calibre. As Principal and friend, Mr. Graves has been a familiar figure through¬ out school. From football games, paper drives and P.A. announcements to college recommendations, discipline and personal advice, he has been intimately involved in the smooth operation of all school personnel and activities. Miss Bronson, our Assistant Principal, also has had great influence on our school life. She performed extremely valuable services in scheduling all of our classes, and co-ordinating Student Activities. She also has participated in forming administration policies, and has disciplined wisely and consistently. As Student Council Advisor, she supervised all student conventions, elections, ticket drives and dances, and as Dean of Girls she performed still greater services. In short, our administrators have provided and maintained the core of our high school experiences. The Class of 1961 is greatly indebted to them for their roles in shaping our future. 11 8

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Samuel M. Graves, Principal. As the day comes that brings with it your gradua¬ tion from high school, it is well to pause for a time and remind yourselves of the events that transpired as you moved forward to this climax of your high school ca¬ reer. These pages of your Wellesleyan will help you to recall such events. You must never forget that the lessons of the past are important only if you profit from them in shaping your future. Your past contains its successes and its failures, its joy and its sorrows, its hopes and its fears, its victories and its defeats. All of these have contributed their bit toward making you what you are today. The future lies before you! What you will accom¬ plish depends upon how well you have laid your foun¬ dation for that future. Much more goes into the making of successful men and women than what takes place in school. Your home, your church, and your community have all played an important role in contributing to the strengths and weaknesses that are now a part of you as an individual. How often we hear it said at graduation time that the future is in your hands. From time immemorial, each passing generation has called upon the youth of its time to right the wrongs of their own generation. Your parents, your teachers, and your friends can hope only that in guiding you to this point in your lives they have given you a sense of values which will serve you realistically in the years to come. Your happiness and achievements will be the culmination of their aspira¬ tions for you. You will succeed in the future only if you realize clearly that there is a Power outside your¬ selves without Whose guidance nothing truly great can ever be accomplished. Only as you learn to rely on God can you find the wisdom and strength to meet the prob¬ lems of your future years. With God’s help you will not fail! Goodbye and good luck to all of you. 7
