WEDDEHBURN steamed out of San Diego Harbor for a six month tour of duty in the Western Pacific and Far East. Each of us were a little sad at leaving our loved ones behind, but looking forward with excitement at the coming cruise. At times the hours seemed long, the pay not enough, and the chow not so good, but we knew our job and knew it must be done. Under the able guidance of our captain, Commander G, O. Atkinson, Ir. and his capable and competent relief, Commander I. D. Oliver, Ir., the cruise was a big success. We all lool: back to a iob well done and know it was worth it. We have many fond memories of such places as: Sydney, Sasebo, Hong Kong, and many others too numerous to mention. Herein lies the tale of this cruise and the Officers and men who made it . . .
