A. gets. She was classified by the U. S. Amy and Marine Shore Fire Control Units as one ot the best shooting destroyers they had worked with during the Korean Campaign. Her record during this tour includes mortars, caves, tunnels, sarnpans, shore bat- teries and ernplacernents, mines, villages, machine guns, trucks. ammunition and fuel dumps plus over 350 enemy personnel cas- ualties. After a period on the Formosa Patrol the YVEDDEREURN returned to the United States in February i952. After an overhaul at the San Francisco Nat.-al Shipyard and a long period of under'.-ray trainzng she returned to Korea in August 1952 under the cornrrianci ci Cornrnanzier W. M. KLEE. USN. Here the lNEDDEHBURi tJ agazn carrtefii out bombardment missions along the East Coast ci Korea '.-:as screening unit for Task Force 77, and had dunes in Eorrncisa Straits. ln March 1953, she returned to her home port :iz San Diego. She QP-.s Hu? spent seven months operating in areas off San Diego, and in October 1953 left the United States for her third tour with the United Nations Forces in the Ear East. She arrived in the United States following her third tour in May l954. Early in Iune she reported to the Long Beach Naval Shipyard for a three month overhaul period. Leaving the yard i-n September, she reported to San Diego to undergo underway training exercises. Erom Ianuary to May 1955 she made her fourth tour in the Western Pacific under the command of Commander E. L. SCHWAB, Ir., USN. After oper- ating out of San Diego for several months, the WEDDERBURN .made her fifth tour of the Western Pacific. Upon her return in Iuly, 1956, she entered Mare Island Naval Shipyard for a three month overhaul under the command of her present skipper, G. O. ATKINSON, Ir., Commander, USN. - At the end of the yard period she returned to San Diego ,for a brief training program before beginning her sixth tour to lWestPac. ...:E X 4 The officer who handles the administrative matters of the ship is Lieutenant Commander Vinton C. Vint, Executive Officer Mr. Vint entered the Navy in Auaust of 1936. Durina the Sec ond World War he served on board the USS BAGUADUCE CAT-211 up to 1943. In that year he was appointed to temporary Warrant Officer with the rank of BOSN and served on board the USS LEONIS IAK-1281 in the Marshall Islands and Saipan cam paiqns. In May 1944 he was promoted to ENSIGN and soon after selected as commanding officer of USS LST-996. He later received a spot promotion to LIEUTEANT and commanded LST-133, 997 and 1097 consecutivey. His duty after the war has included com pletion of five term colleae program at the University of Oklai homa, First Lieutenant of the BADOENG STRAIGHT ICVE-1161 during the Korean War, General Line School at Monterey, Oper ations officer on the USS PERKINS CDDR-8771 and an instructor at FLEET SONAR SCHOOL in San Diego Mr. Vint was selected for LCDR in 1954 and reported aboard the WEDDERBURN in Ianuary 1957.
