All hands and minds are turned toward the extensive preparations re- quired for a successful tour of duty over- seas. When at last the requirements for getting underway are completed, the crew partakes of a last liberty in the port of San Diego. Finally the day arrives when we leave the harbor for the last time, not to return for at least six months. ln the minds and hearts of the crew is a mixture oi sorrow, anticipation, ioy and the disheartenin Q thought of leaving those that the y love. Their minds swim in reminiscence as they see the sunny port of San Diego merge into the hills and mountains oi California. Landscapes finally disappear into and be- yond the horizon, and all sails are set tor Pearl Harbor. SAN DIEGO THEN UNDERWAY , -. 0 , ,,,t , ' +',L1'3f?,f,' pgg:xfv .
