This is the first team to accomplish such a feat. The Bearcats had tough opposition at the tournament this year, but outscored the Miller Rustlers 42-56 in the opening game of the State Class 'B'. They next defeated the Phillip Scotties 61-45 before the battle of downing Eureka in the finals, 44-40. The team set a new 5-game scoring record by piling up 147 points for the 5-day contest. The previous record was held by Webster at 157 points made in 1945. Harvey Hanson and Rodney Soyland, both All-Staters, played steady ball throughout the tournament. Hanson scored 48 points' in the 5 games--25 of which came in the breath-taking finals. Soyland dropped in 51 points in the 5 games. Others on the starting line-up were Gene Alvin and Ed Majeske, who were placed on the reserve All-State team. These boys, including Lee Kanago, fought as Bearcats all the way. Alwin hit the net scoring 37 points in his 3 appearances, while Majeske scored 15 points. Play- ing as guard, most of his work was stopping scoring on the other side and starting our plays. A11 10 boys, when called upon, saw action in the State tournament and played good ball. Two members of the starting line-up, Hanson and Soyland are Sen- iorsg also Farmen, a reliable reserve. 47 1 5 U 4005460 f, v , X 5 . l P n .ga , ,:.4:,4 k q Jack Rod Bill , 1 1 ' 1 x an U rift msg Dean ii na. mffffw Q .ui np' vp H 3 . . , Q-ni f uv-' 1 , s .12 ing 'S '44 1 1 '43 'k- I Q L.. 46 The Northeast Conference Champigng of 1947.
