1, E4 Q., fy I I NCE more the curtains part, and there appear upon the spotlighted stage the actors and actresses of the great drama. First there come, hand in hand, two tall, sophisticated figures, bearing themselves in noble majesty. Their high and lofty brows are uncreased with worldly cares, their eyes are bright, sparkling, and if one should look deeply therein, he would perceive the dream of success, of magnificent achievements, the hope for fulfillment of the highest, the noblest things to be: their chins are strong and firm, bespeaking resoluteness of thought and purpose. Exalted they stand before us, wisdom itself, prepared to take their places on the lofty citadels of the world that shall be theirs. Another spotlight gleams, and in its dazzling brilliance there is visible a pair of mirthful players. Their eyes sparkle and laugh from their depths, their lips are parted in gayest merrimentg their whole beings proclaim to all that not a care is theirs. Vivacious they are, and happy in the midst of all that youth can give them, yet sure of themselves, proud of the profound knowledge they believe to be theirs, certain of the attainments of the highest pinnacles on the way to fame and success. Halfway through these early years they stand, youthfully loyal, wholehearted and true, not yet fully conscious of the great part they are to play in the weaving of the drama of the future. Now the gleaming light searches out two shy and self-conscious figures. Reluctantly, they make their appearance in the bright glare, and reveal them- selves to the audience. In their eyes is a strange, timid look, they glance fear- fully about, afraid of making known their ambitions, their hopes, their dreams. Yet they are a merry pair. Once accustomed to the brilliant gleams of the light, they lose their self-consciousness, and with shining faces appear to revel in the sheer joy of living. Youth as we have it here revealed in its tenderest form with its loves and ambitions, with the air castles that will vanish all too soon, and leave their makers not disillusioned, but increasingly determined and persistent. In a merry parade they pass before us, each actor with a definite part to play, each with a definite goal for which to strive and to reach, each with a hope and a dream to be fulfilled. Through the years the world will watch their progress, and their achievements, and through the years, step by step, they will make their way farther upward to the lofty pinnacles of fame and fortune.
