One of the many new clubs at Webb this year was the American Field Service Club. According to its constitution, the club's purposes are to provide fun, funds, and fellowship for the A.F.S. student in residence. lnexperienced as it was, the club was very fortunate in having Gillian Van Hasselt: for she was so outgoing that there was no need to provide fun and fellowship. An unexpected bonus from Gill was the visit of her charming father, Dr. Van Hasselt, in the course of a spring business trip to the States. GilI's ability to adapt to her new surroundings was a major reason for the success of the annual A.F.S. carnival. Along with the seniors' dunking machine, the juniors' haunted house, and the 7th grade's cake walk, a feature of the evening was the talent show, presenting such sterling performers as Steve Bar- bour and Jim Ripley singing Rubber Duckie and Bailey Sharp playing his own very professional compositions. The climax of the evening, Jeff Chapman's announcement that there would, indeed, be an A.F.S. student next year, made the hard work that had gone into the carnival very much worth while.
