After attending a summer cheerleading clinic at Tennessee Tech, where they were awarded a blue ribbon and the spirit stick for outstanding enthusiasm, the squad re- turned to school in the fall with many ideas to promote student spirit at Webb. The new X periods provided them an opportunity to introduce new cheers and to stimulate student support for the teams. However, much of the credit for arousing team support must be given to David Stair and his crew, who faithfully brought their cannon to every game and added much to the entire season. This year the 1970-71 Lower School cheerleaders had a great year cheering to empty bleachers. The number of people at the games was astounding. lt included the team, the cheer- leaders, and the two coaches. lFlahll We did get a lot of practice during the season. During the games we ate that good Webb popcorn, but when our mouths were not full, we really yelled. Nlost of the time we were being yelled at by the team to get off the field, being run over by the referee, or knocked down by the football. All in all, we had a lot of fun in what proved to be a great experience for all of us. and Sparkle at Home Games 34

With an early start, the Annual Staff darted towards its destination f 7'HE BOOK l, shaking off problems with the efficiency and agility of a turned-over turtle. The staff started the year off early - it wasn't even early spring before the staff had finished choosing the type of cover for this year's edition. And by graduation '71, the staff had completed at least one-fourth of the book. Late nights, early mornings, creeping dead-lines, and total loss of eyesight did not so much as faze the ones so devoted to the production of that record of events that brings tears to the eyes of those who hold high the days of yesteryear. Each member of the staff gladly, and without the slightest of afterthoughts, contributed his small share to the total insanity of such an operation. Each person was able to justify his long hours in view of the rewarding gratitude and appreciation of those students and members of the faculty who stand appreciatively once a year in line with arms outstretched, awaiting the moment when their fingers may caress the golden pages of their own precious copy of PRINCEPS. The faces of the students as they scan The Book from cover to cover for the first time, The Book recalling to mind the forgotten times held dear to the hearts of all - these are the rewards, the payments, for the eternities of miserable frustration experienced by the noble staff.
