Enlarged Current Events Club Prompts New Interest The Current Events Club was again one of the schooI's outstanding extracurricular organizations. The liberal lineup of officers, president Mike Downing, secretary-treasurer Con- nie Carlson, and program chairman Melissa Graf revolutionized club membership by admitting all Upper School students, regardless of race, creed, or color. Attendance was large at the beginning of the year, but sadly declined as the year wore on. ln any case, programs were fantastic and truly varied, running from a study of the kibbutz system in Israel to discussion of the draft and of the war in Laos. One official deserves a special hand: Linda Reeder, food chairman, created brilliant Happy Hours to top off the discussions. Though mourning the departure of sponsor Jeff Chapman, Mrs. Lothrop and next season's club officers look forward to another smashing year.

Original Vocal Style and Arrangement Improves Chorus The Webb School Chorus lGlee Clubl enjoyed a very suc- cessful season under the competent and inspiring direction of lVlr. Walter H. Hawthorne. A novelty for the Chorus was its first musical concert tour, including excursions to Shannon- dale Retirement Community and Children's Hospital, as well as special nocturnal Christmas and' Spring concerts. The pro- grams included works by Beethoven, Bach, Schubert, lVlendeIs- sohn, and Sibelius. Because of lVlr. Hawthorne's musical versa- tility, the Chorus was also able to branch out into many types of music. Even though the Chorus had fewer than twenty members, it was able to perform music written for groups of much greater size. All of the success of the Chorus can be attributed to the hard work and sincerity of our combination conductor, bass soloist, and friend, Nlr. Hawthorne. Those who worked under him will always be grateful for having had the opportunity. They feel that Webb's loss is the University of Tennessee's gain.
