N N iii' W li ' iii ' i ll The athletic highlight of 1972-73 was without a doubt the basketball squad. School spirit was at its height at all Big Red Basketball con- tests. The Cardinals finished 24-3 and made the coveted trip to Columbia for the State Tourney. As a result of the tireless efforts of Coach Ron Ellis and his cagers, the entire area got behind the Dread- ed Red and boosted them to a fourth-place finish in the state. Though the season is done, the pride and spirits that come from uniting behind one cause and moving forward to achieve a goal still goes on at W.C.H.S. Many W.C.H.S. students found in 72-73 that the key to a successful and happy high school life is to participate. Whether they got in- volved with various clubs, or further involved in their classes, or with the school, the answer proved the same: The key to success is in- deed participation. The conference champion basketball team prov- ed to be a major source of this involvement as it would be hard for one to remember a single group that united the W.C. student body as this year's cage squad did. The entire school got behind them and displayed our pride and school spirit to all. 13 Nfl EWR Q, I gr- ' Aa. 1 is Q vi 5 '1 wa vt' 'x A N ' , AL ' y QS.--A T is ' I ' .HQ 9 4 ' f ,A 6 ,, M ,7 , 1 TPB -A Y ' 'S 1 if 1 Q :aw 1 . Kerry Reigns Over Homecoming Festivities Homecoming 72 was marked by the crowning of Kerry Betebenner, during the pre-game ceremonies, by senior halfback Matt Spencer. Many activities spiced homecoming this year such as: the parade, snakedance, bonfire and the traditional dance. The game itself proved interesting and exciting even though the Cardinals dropped a 38- 16 decision to the Nevada Tigers. The post-game dance although was a success as the music was provided by Liberty Theatre .
