REPRESENTING YOG • • • PRESIDENT: Jim Pritchett All in favor, say 'Aye'.’’ Thus a vote was cast by the Senate under the leadership of President Jim Pritchett. The Senate is composed of the Student Body President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, eight Senators from each class, the class presidents, Boys' Federation President, Council of Girls President, leaders of various school organizations, and Yell King. Assisting with student government was the Board of Control, which included all student body officers. Meetings were held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, at which members discussed and took action on school problems. Spirit was certainly popping” at Weatherwax this year. Among the many accomplishments under the student leadership was the completion of the Student Lounge, providing an enjoyable place to spend extra time during lunch periods and after school. The lounge also served as a meeting place for the Senate and Board of Control. The student body is grateful to those who helped to complete the lounge and to the teachers who volunteered their services as supervisors. Other projects in which the Senate and Board of Control took part were the annual World Clothing Drive, the revision of the school constitution, and co-operation with the Hoquiam Board of Control in preventing problems during the Thanksgiving Day game. The Senate and the French Club made plans together for participation in the Foreign Student Exchange program, which is a community project. After a detailed explanation by Mr. Bar-tine, the Student Body budget was studied and approved. Senate members also contributed towards the purchase of Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. Several committees were appointed by the President to aid in improving school conditions. These included the Hall Traffic Committee, which studied hall conditions and suggested possible solutions, and the Beautification Committee, which made great strides in improving and caring for the school grounds. Board of Control members received pins for their services and an opportunity to attend a student government conference in Longview. All student government members concluded the successful and rewarding 1959-60 school year with a picnic.
