Peterson, J. Jones. B. Miller. BASEBALL The nineteen forty-nine baseball team again saw a good season. which was elimaxed by the winning of the District 18 championship at Shakopee. The team was again coached. as it has been for the last several years, by George Anderson. and it was led by the batting power of John Jones. Russ Bouley. and Powerhouse Pete and FenceaFace sJones at Work P. Peterson. J. Jo Page I'Iightecn Pete Peterson. and by the brilliant fielding of Tom Loaney. The team was built around a hve-man nucleus of returning lettermen. consisting 111' John Jones. catch- er: Don Streeter. pitcher: T11111 Luaney. 1111tfielde1'. and Russ Bouley and Dick Peterson. 11 double play combination of shortstop and semmd base respec- tively. The season started 11H with a bang. as the teanl dropped a Close game to Robbinsdale. the defending distrlct champions by a some 11f 1- 0, Thex gave evi- dence in that game that they xxnuld be hard to beat f111 the rest of the season This proxed to be true. for the team xxon its remainiirU game. and headed into the District 18 tournament. In the first game of the tournament. they met a hard-hitting team of left hands from Chaska. but they gave evidence of their championship caliber by coming through with a 4-2 Victory. The Championship game with Robbinsdale proved to be a fast. well-played ball game. which found our boys peeking away at Robbinsdale's early three run lead. They Were nut 111 be denied. and aided by a five run seventh inning. the team came through with a deserved 8-5 victory. In the regional tournament at Delano. they met their match in a tough team from Minneapolis. Edison. who eventually won the state title. The score was 5-2.
