Only seven of the senior class began their trip in the space-ship WAYNE. Ted Folkerth, Shirley Hart, Jerald I-lueber, Robert McKnight, Donald Peacock, and Jerry Prescott left on the long journey, with Miss Anna Platt as their pilot, and Mr. Leon Thompson as their co-pilot. They were in flight until September, 194-4, when they came to a stop on PLANET CONKLIN. There they found Harold Conklin ready and willing to go on with them. In the fall of 1945, they landed on PLANET BUTCHERg there they let Miss Platt off and picked up a new pilot by the name of Helen Butcher: they also received a new member by the name of Lois Furgason, who came from Union City. They found her to be very gentle and kind. They found Mrs. Butcher always ready to help them in whatever need they had. And in the spring of 1946, they landed on a planet by the name of PLANET COX. There they picked up a sun-tanned boy by the name of Simeon Cox. They progressed well that summer, and in the fall of 1946, they landed on another planet, there they let Simeon Cox and Ted Folkerth off. Simeon said he had to go to Arizona, and Ted said he had to go to Daleville. On this planet they picked up David Carpenter, an enthusiastic boy from McKinley. From there they made much progression and didn't make a stop until the fall of 1947, when they landed on PLANET GRACE. There they received a new pilot, whose name was Grace Cox. She greeted them with a smile and told them that she was glad to have them as her passengers. On PLANET GRACE they also picked up two new members by the names of Joyce Moore and Mary Roberts. They found them to be girls willing to go on with them. On PLANET GRACE they also picked up Simeon Cox and Ted Folkerth who decided to go on with them. All this time they had been in the rear of the ship, but in the fall of 1951, they graduated to the cabin, where they received a higher training. That fall they picked up quite a few new officers, many of whom have helped them to this year of 1955, the year they shall land on PLANET HIGHER EDUCATION. From now on it's all up to them. There are many places and many different opportunities on PLANET HIGHER EDUCATION and its mother planet, PLANET SUCCESS. From the education they received in the space-ship WAYNE, they should be able to make a success of life. CLASS PGEM We're the class of 55 in school, but not to stay, I know it'11 break a lot of hearts, when we go away. Eight dashing boys are first on our list, They're over sixteen and have already been kissed. David Carpenter is first and the devil in his eyes does gleam, But someone in Winchester is the girl of his dreams. Next comes Harold Conklin and at pranks he is the greatest, And often in Government he comes in the latest. Simion Cox is next, who like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, Loves to play baseball and IOITIBDCC his girl. Mary. Jerry Prescott, the quiet one, has a lot on the beam, Especially in Algebra and blowing off steam. Donald Peacock is another who is quiet and shy, He studies and studies, but he makes the girls sigh. Our farmer is Bob McKnight with a disposition so sunny, He will tend to his farming chores and make bushels of rnoney. Jerald I-lueber is one who a preacher he'll be, He will teach about the Bible to the people across the sea. One of our boys, Ted Folkerth, you see, Wants to get married and start a family tree. Last but not least we bring on the beauties, Who someday I know will be knitting on booties. Our blue-eyed blond Joyce Moore will wed, That Gentlemen Prefer Blondes , truer words were never said. But Shirley Hart will not give up on this problem, she never frets, Although Gentlemen Prefer Blondes they still often marry brunettes Our secretary, Lois Furgason, will type 'til day is done, And hope that she winds up with a diamond ring and the boss's son. And now the class of 55 bids you adieu, We have enjoyed your company and we hope you enjoyed us too. PROPHECY On July 21, 1965, we were on our way to the airport, when we noticed that a new firm had moved into town. We stopped to inquire, and we met Shirley Hart, a former classmate, at the receptionist's desk. She was secretary of the Good and Wymer Firm . She told us she had not made the great decision of marriage yet. As we were about to board the plane, we saw a young man that looked very familiar. As he turned around, we saw that it was Harold Conklin, a former classmate. Harold said since high school he has been traveling from place to place for the Jenkins Comb Company. While talking to Harold we found that he still had a very large date book. After bidding good-bye to Harold, we journeyed to Dayton, and while there we saw Lois Furgason. She told us that she was working as a secretary in a large business firm. She had married the boss's son and had one little girl. After telling Lois farewell, we boarded a plane for Phoenix, Arizona. As we were walking down town, we went into the library: there sat Donald Peacock. He was studying. He had changed considerably since his former high school days. He had grown a mustache and now was wearing glasses. We went over and talked to him and found out that he was a school teacher. He said he was waiting for his wife, who was also a teacher. We decided to visit the University of California and see a football game. While walking over the campus, we ran into Jerry Prescott sitting under a chestnut tree feeding the squirrels peanuts. He told us that he was professor in Math. Before leaving Jerry, we went to the football game with him and his wife, and their two children. As we were traveling in Wisconsin, we saw a herd of Holstein cattle. We stopped at the farm house and found out that Ted Folkerth, another 1955 classmate, lived there. He moved to Wisconsin soon after graduation and established a large dairy farm. He had also gotten himself a wife and now has five children. We took a plane to New York, where we heard that Simeon Cox, another 1955 graduate, was a baseball player for the Yankees. Up in the crowd one voice stood out among all others, that was the former Mary Jo Ruff who is now Simeon 's better half. While we were still in New York, we heard that another 1955 classmate was minister in a large church in Phila- delphia, Pennsylvania. Sunday morning we were guests at the large church of which Jerald Hueber was pastor. After the services, Jera1d's lovely wife invited us to dinner. During dinner we talked over old times, and we learned that Jerald and his wife were doing well in the church. That night about 6:00, we boarded a plane and headed back to Indiana. ,We spent the night in Lafayette. Monday morning as we passed the courthouse in Lafayette, we saw a sign that read David Carpenter, County Agent We began inquiring and found out it was the same David Carpenter we knew back in 1955. After high school he had attended Purdue University, and was elected County Agent of Tippecanoe County. He told us he also had a lovely wife, the forrner Patricia Eastman, and two children. We took a bus from Lafayette to Albany. There as we entered the Marsh's Foodliner, we met Mrs. Richard 1ChickJ Cox, the former Joyce A. Moore. She invited us to her lovely home and there we met four curly headed little Chicks As we visited with the Coxes, we told Joyce about all her former classmates. We started back home, but decided to stop and see Bob McKnight, another 1955 classmate. He was farming a farm of 500 acres. While talking to Bob and the former Verlaine Beaty, who is now his wife, we learned that Bob had started farming right after graduation. He also had four little helpers. After bidding farewell to a very joyous trip, we journeyed to our own homes. 5' ' 4 . 51 h . f , J f' 1 .. Y I 1 V f 4 In S ' 5 W ' I .. . . The Wayne 1954 Baseball season standings: Wayne 1 Spartansburg IO Wayne II Green O Wayne 16 Jackson 2 Wayne II Stoney Creek I2 Wayne 8 Jefferson 2 Wayne I2 Union Twp, 2 Wayne I2 Saratoga I Wayne I7 Ridgeville 4 The Wayne Tigers were a lot rougher than they were expected to be during the 1954 season. The Tigers won six out of eight games during the season. The two games that they lost, were heart-breakers The first game that they lost was the opening one of the season, but that didn't discourage the Tigers. They became more determined and thus surged ahead to win the next two games. But somehow they were over-powered by Stoney Creek in a real thriller which ended up with an eleven to twelve loss for the Tigers. The Tigers were still more determined and they won the rest of the games of the season, In the past years Wayne has been noted for its good baseball teams. Wayne has had championship teams in 1951, 1952, 1953, and in 1954 they missed being champion, by one game. Harold: Well, coach, we're going to present you with a victory for your birthday. Mr. Anderson: Goodl I was expecting the usual tie. The 1954 basket-ball squad played hard but yet came out with a losing season, nevertheless none of us can deny that they always put up a fight, no matter what the odds. The 54 Tigers squad lacked nothing as far as spirit was concerned but were left far behind in the major asset to a basket-ball team--HEIGHT! With a very tough schedule, their 7 Xt 9 record was not as disappointing to the fans as indicated. The boys were taught a pressing offense which led to very interesting basket-ball from the view- point of the fans. The team will suffer from graduation, as four of the regulars are ending their athletic career as Tigers. In tournament play theTigers were never able to get started: losing their first game in both the County and Sectional tournaments. WAYNE OPPONENTS 51 Parker 66 45 Stoney Creek 60 53 Union City E.
