The Wayland Warriors The Wayland Varsity Football team finished its un- defeated season with a 7-0-2 record and the Dual County League Co-Championship. Led by Co-captains Randy Par- ker and Rick Swift, the team consistently gave one hun- dred per cent each Saturday, and only a few bad breaks kept its season from being undefeated-untied. A good in- dication of the ability of the team lies in the fact that eight of the starting eleven players were elected to various local all-star teams. Tackle Rick Swift, fullback Tom Miller and quarterback Bob Osmond were selected by the league coaches as All-Dual Country League players. Wayland ' s powerhouse offense was sparkled by the Mutt and Jeff combination of 5 ' 6 , 135 lb. quarterback Bob Osmond, and 6 ' 1 , 202 lb. fullback Tom Miller. Com- bining to score 140 of the team ' s total of 216 points, they led Wayland ' s league leading offense. Coach Salvatti attributed much of the team ' s success to the ability of field general Osmond. Besides keeping the team ' s spirit up, scoring fifty-six points, and playing de- fensive halfback, the small but mighty gridiron terror also, managed to call Wayland ' s offensive signals. Osmond was considered by several newspapers to be the most aggressive player in the Dual County League. Tackle Ricky Swift and middle guard Randy Parker led the tenacious Wayland defense which seldom gave up more than seventy-five yards per game. Other defensive stand-outs were linebacker Jack Swain and ends Rick Tuscher and Mike and and safety Jack Balben. Under the direction of Ralph Salvatti and Joe Devine, the team ' s 7-0-2 record was somewhat of an improvement upon its freshman record of 0-4-1. Ironically, the tie in the freshman year was a 6-6 game with arch rival Weston. The team ' s record as J.V. ' s was 4-4-1. Who did they tie during this season? Weston, of course. This year?
