CARL JUNG Dedicotion Throughout our four years, your common sense, under- standing, idealism, and enthusiasm have been our constant companions. We shall never forget the many hours you de- voted to the Blue Delft. the afternoons spent helping students, the Saturdays working at the Cmzrwxipifwz, the evenings cha- peroning our dances, the carefully prepared large groups on chivalry, the cocoa you made at the Skrzfmkg Puffy, the hours given as Class Adviser ,as Yearbook Adviser, as a friend. You have been content not merely to impress facts upon our minds, but also to make us a little bit more considerate, more cultured human beings. For your contributions, not only as a dynamic teacher, but also as a compassionate human being, we dedicate this Yearbook - to you, Mr. Mazza. , 5 t 1 , .ng- 'ix' 2 S: A' 'V 4.1 i if - ' 'L v I 4 l 4 . 1 O 5 W ,et A I . ,JY ,P- tr i-aug -f4 P. -mag x A-,VX 5: 1' 0 . 2 Tolole of Contents Dedication, ,... We did not restrict ourselves to past designs and arrange- ments. Rather, we sampled many new ideas along with traditional ones. The divider pages, designed by a local artist, the sequence pages, the color endsheet of Wfayland High are examples. As in a big operation, it is impossible to list all those who worked to bri about a finished product. We would like, however, to thank our ti photographers, Tom Poole and Gordon Paine, for a fine job. Spec thanks go to Miss Cobb and Mr. Mazza for providing inspirati and guidance. An Honor Pass Review Board composed of students and faculty issued passes to worthy applicants. The Honor Pass allows the student to merely sign out of a general study hall in the Commons or Little Theater to utilize the Library and Reference Centers. By this system teachers are relieved in many instances of the burden of filling out pre-signed passes. Reference Center teachers have expressed enthusi- asm for the improved atmosphere. The system seems certain to continue as long as these favorable reactions continue. L- Tom White punches an underclassman's activity card. 1 1 la Xxf, 47 S Donna Sherman signs out of the Commons. Activity Corel For the first time this year the Student Council establsihed an Activity Card system within the school. The Card gave the students over a BOQ discount on the Campus Crier, Re- flector, home football and basketball games, and seven school dances. Wliat would have cost approximately S20 normally. this year costs only 39. Proceeds from the sale of cards was divided betwen the Campus Crier, Reflector. four classes. and the athletic department. This system aids the Student Council and the participating organizations by guaranteeing them a sum, based on a percentage, taken from the total net from sales. Although the volume of sales did not quite meet ex- pectations, the Student Council gained valuable experience and looks forward to increased sales next year. in Dress-Up Doy This year the Student Council has designated each Friday as Dress-up Day. They feel that this will promote school spiritg improve the overall appearance of the schoolg and further every students pride in his appearance. The Student Council hopes that in years to come the entire student body will participate. 'rayfsffi Freshman Tec: The Freshman Tea. a reception for the incoming freshmen, was held in the Commons by the Student Council. Designed to replace initiation, it provided an opportunity to welcome the freshmen and allowed the faculty to mingle informally with them. Refresh- ments were serwed by the Seniors. Friday's three fashions l Christmas Cotillici 66 To replace the annual Christmas Ball, the Student Council held at Sandy Burr a semi-formal dance de- signed to provide students with a more formal affair than the usual dances run by the separate classes. In addition it raised funds for the Council's pro- posed projects. Ccimpus Coop 1- fl f .1 .1 1. .. X vgitg' lx. What made this record noteworthy was the fact that as Freshmen this team did not win a game. Co-captains Bobby Osmond at quarterback and Ricky Swift at fullback helped generate the Wayland offense. Guard Randy Parker sparked a line that showed great im- provement as the season progressed. The team's great spirit was never more clearly illustrated than in the encounter with heavily favored Westwood. Trailing throughout most of the game, the Wfarriors came up with a touchdown in the closing minutes to win 12 to 8. The season ended with the traditional game with Weston. Having lost last year's game with the Wildcats, the team was eager for revenge. Both teams displayed the zeal that is ever-present at Way- land-Weston games playing to a 6 to 6 tie. i 1 S Q ' ,, ,fs an -dl. r' 9 ft: 5 A A is ,Q ,,-M 1- Q fs .. -. tQi? :FfF5 '.f 23? ?Ff ,., Pre- game strategy. Co-captain Greg Hartman and Tom Frye. both ends, provided targets for quarterbacks Terry Kane, also a co-captain, and Glenn johnson. However, the team's strongest asset was its powerful running at- tack. Steve Abbott at fullback furnished the crunch- ing strength that was needed to keep a drive going. johnny Kather at halfback with his speed provided the break away threat. The,team's best effort came in the last game of the season against previously undefeated Framingham North. The team was ably coached by Mr. Henry Cotton, . who had a state hockey champion at Framingham three years ago. l The team got progressively better as the season rolled on. The first game of the year was lost to Newton South, 2-1, but later the team whipped N. S. by a 4-1 score. With each team Wfayland did better the second time around. The hrst game with Wfestwood was a 7-O disaster, as was Lynnfield, 6-O. However in the second meetings, Wfayland lost to Wfestwood by only - 3-1, and to Lynnheld by a measly one goal, 2-1. In the latter game the club . 1 Q 4 J, almost had the upset of the year. The offensive stars were Buddy Brannen and Rick Turner. Goalie Guy Heald had two shutouts to his credit on the year, and a less than three goals per game against average.
