CLASS PROPHECY As I settled down in the comfortable seat of the airliner, that was carrying me to a vacation on the West Coast, I found myself thinking of my wonderful experiences and former classmates at Wausa High. I planned to see many of them in Los Angeles so I was in a hurry to get there. Across the aisle two men were engaged in an animated discussion. I recognized them immediately: they were Rolan Anderson, who was a star football player for the Los Angeles Rams, and LeRoy Hansen, who was a successful high school football coach. It seems that they were reliving some of the games they played at Wausa High. I joined them and soon we found ourselves talking over the good times we had in school. Off in the distance we recognized the famous Salt Flats where yesterday a car driven by Warren Wilbeck broke five new sports car records. The car was de- signed by car designer, David Landell; it was built by the famous spons car mechanic, Roger Swanson; and it was owned by Adrian Frevert, who was a new car dealer. The time whisked by and soon we landed in Los Angeles. When we landed, we noticed a sleek new Navy jet parked on the runway. Standing near it were Merlin Lindahl, who designed the plane, and Gary Halleen,.a Navy test pilot. After a round of handshaking, we decided to go for lunch. A cab took us uptown and we got out in front of a huge drug store, which was owned and operated by Gary Anderson. We went in and at the lunch counter was Gary, who was talking to Glenda Juracek and Linda Ekdahl. They were working as secretaries for a large in- surance company. They informed us that Karen Smith worked as a secretary for a lawyer. Our discussion was interrupted by a group of teen-agers, who were following the singing star, Dennis Anderson. His manager was that well-known singer, Bruce Anderson. The sound of construction rang in our ears because across the street a new building was going up. Richard Larson was the chief architect and Lonnie Anderson was the construction head. The building was to be the home of Anne Butler’s fashion creations. Watching the construction was a group of elementary school children with their teacher, Marjorie Olson. Also accompanying the group was the school nurse, Josephine Larson. We im- mediately joined them, and they informed us that Shirlene Banks was a home economics teacher in one of the local schools and that Larry Johnson, a successful civil engineer, has just returned from a final inspection of the new international highway. Two prosperous looking gentlemen came walking up the street. They were David Stenbeig and Marvin Brasch, who were in town to be honored by a farm convention. David was a large cattle feeder and Marvin had set a new corn yield record. They told us that Douglas Wilbeck owned a one-hundred thousand acre ranch. A large truck rumbled up the street and we recognized Lyle Weyrich as the driver. His fleet of trucks now ran from coast to coast and hauled all of the groceries for Conrad Erickson's nation-wide chain of stores. Lyle recognized us and stopped. He told us that Keith Olson was in town being honored as shoe salesman of the year with a banquet that was being held in one of Karen Bauerly's fashionable oceanside hotels. As Lyle was telling us that Sharon Jacob was the head cashier of one of the large banks in the city, Earlean Schoonover and Lavonda Beaudette came walking down the street. Earlean said she was the head dietician at a large midwestern college and that Lavonda managed a number of nationally known hairdressing salons. The time swept by much too swiftly as I talked over the good times we had at Wausa High and visited with my former classmates. As I once more boarded the plane, I was filled with a feeling of great satisfaction to have known and been a part of the Class of 1960 at Wausa High. M M MOTOR CO. Wausa, Nebraska
