CLASS PROPHECY One bright sunny morning I was greeted by the postman, Don Weyhrick, who presented me with a very important letter. The letter stated that I was the winner of the Peep! Peep! Breakfast Food Com- pany's Trip to the Moon Contest. I was surprised to read that the signature of the president of the company belonged to Gordon Kumm, a former classmate at Wausa High School. In the letter Gordon said that he had purchased the company with the money he had won on a television quiz program. Gor- don also stated that Carol and Carolyn Beaudette were employed as secretaries in his company. The next morning I got on an airplane which would take me to New York where the rocket was waiting for me. When I entered the airplane I was greeted by a very efficient stewardess. I recognized her as being Marilyn Wrick, a former schoolmate. As I was fastening my seatbelt a familiar voice greeted me. As I turned to see who had spoken I was very surprised to find Robert Skalberg seated next to me. Skelly was on his way to New York to play in the International Basketball Tournaments. Skelly told me that Dennis Johnson was the coach of the opponent team so it would be a tough game to win. We became so involved in reliving old times in Wausa High that before we realized it we were landing in New York. I wished Skelly the best of luck in his game and then hurried down the ramp to greet Beverly Anderson who was waiting for me. Beverly was now a registered nurse. She told me that Susan Nelson and Norma Seagren had also become nurses and were now working at their professions. Beverly also said that Betty Erickson was employed at Fort Knox and that Carole Rickers was living on a farm with her husband. We began looking for a cab and finally saw one parked at the curb. We rushed over to it and dis- covered that the driver was asleep. After awaking him we thought that he was familiar so we asked him if he had ever visited Wausa. He told us that he was Gene Gillilan and that he was trying to catch up on his sleep because he had had a busy night. As we were driving to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, Gene began telling us about his experiences as a cab driver. It sounded like a very exciting career. As we entered the lobby of the hotel we saw a very flustered lady looking for something in her purse. I was very surprised to discover that the lady was the former Sheila Kirby. She and her husband were on their way to establish a medical center at a foreign mission. Sheila told us that Juanita Johnson was the social director at the hotel so we went up to her office to say hello. We couldn't see Juanita because she was busy so we went back to the lobby for my luggage. As 1 entered the lobby I saw a bell-hop carrying my luggage to my room. When I arrived at my room I discovered that the bell-hop was Norman Carlson, a member of my high school class. Norman told me that Herb Bengston was employed as a vetenarian in an animal clinic at Los Angeles. I had just begun unpacking when there was a knock at my door. As I opened the door I was very surprised to see Beverly Nelson. We hadn't seen one another since graduation so we had much to talk about. Beverly was now a gym instructor at a college in New York. She also said that Velda Claussen was teaching Home Economics and Deanna Enquist was the owner of a large skating rink in Tennessee. The next morning I went sight seeing. As I was window shopping I suddenly saw a sign Karen's Stationery Shop. I went in and as I was buying stationery I learned that the owner was Karen Peterson. The musical Dick's Tombones was showing so I decided to attend it. The star of the show was Dick Thorell. After the show Dick invited me backstage and introduced me to his chief technician, Charles Rehan. Dick also said that Bob Swanson had become a comedian and was appearing on the Steve Allen Show. Early the next morning I went to the airport where I was to board the rocket that would take me to the moon. I heard a familiar laugh and turned to see Don Eifert stepping out of the rocket. Don was now a photographer for the NEW YORK TIMES. Don took me in to meet the pilot who was no other than Leon Anderson. As the rocket launched into space I began remembering all the wonderful times at Wausa High School. I was very proud to have been a member of the class of 1959! J.
