VARSITY FOOTBALL 1952 The Varsity, coached this year by the former U. of W. star, Bob Petruska, played good ball but suffered a few bad breaks. The Columbus game, cancelled because of polio, was replaced by an intra-squad clash which they called the Army-Navy game. The venture was so successful, it will be re- peated annually. Underdog Army won the first game of this nature by rolling over highly fa- vored Navy by a score of 27 to 14. Max Galler and Fuller McBride were elected co-captains by the team at the end of the sea- son and Dick Watts was voted the Most Valua- ble Player. Dick Thompson, star tackle and extra-point specialist, was the only one in the conference to kick a field goal. JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL 1952 Coach Mel Barkley's Jay Vees finally brought Waupun a conference title. The team lost only one game, that one being a non- conference tilt against Wayland Academy of Beaver Dam. The young Warriors defeated their arch-rivals, Beaver Dam, for the conference crown in their last game of the season. The Jay Vees had a strong running game with Jimmy Barnes, Pete Pike, and Landon Op- perman doing most of the carrying. Their feats would not have been possible without the teamwork of players like Gale Dhein, Tom Peterson, Don Roets, Ronnie Anderson, Fred Micheels and Jack Kremers. All are regarded as fine prospects for the Varsity next season. Third Row-Mr. B. Alberg-Assistant Coach, L. Opperman, W. Ellmann, D. Pike, T. Peterson, H. Schmitz, J. Ball, E. Michael, F.
