DE LAND BOWERS CFARMER PARTY, On September 2, l952, sixty-five Dutch boys donned their blue breeches and wooden shoes, and sixty-one Dutch lasses put on their billow- ing skirts and wooden shoes, and paddled their boats down Waupun's Main Street Canal and right up to the front door of our Holland City High School. Today began their real education. After initiation ceremonies were completed the young ones settled down to the routine of high school life. At first it was difficult to find their way around, but with the help of fellow Hollanders, sense of direction was mas- tered at last, and these young lads and losses soon found favor with both teachers and students. Considering that this was their first year at Holland City High School, the young Hollanders did very well in making the school year of i952- 53 a great success. The boys of the group were found very active in sports. Even though some didn't make the A or B squads, they still received gratefully the training given them and they are determined to use it in future years to help make the all-around sports record of our school as close to lOO per cent perfect as possible. Both boys and girls were found in the various musical activities learning to play Holland music and learning about Holland composers. The Dramatic field also found many of this class interested in Dutch orators, deba- tors, and actors. Many Dutchies participated in the Freshman-Sophomore Forensic contest. Yes, this group of Holland youths had found this school life very nice. ln fact, they decided to return each fall in the boats for three more years. Fellow Hollanders, appraising the deter- mination and the wonderful Holland attitude of these young ones, feel that they will be very capable of filling the wooden shoes in- herited from graduating elders.
