We've partied all our high-school years. We've rocked the nights away with fun We've made many friends in this high school And we've danced to many different drums. The halls have rung with our laughter And the teachers smiled some too They teased when we sang, but they'd teased before We just shrugged and grinned and asked for more. Wauneta High has sure had its times They were filled with lots of fun These are the times we'll remember best When we danced and rocked with WHS. Eric HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1987 In September of 1987 sixteen of the cutest kids joined together to become the Kindergarten class of Wauneta Public School. These kids were Brad Yost, Gene Winscot, Anita Wheeler, Joni Travis, Chris Meints, Samantha Martin, Lori Maddux, Kelly Kitt, Kellie Krausnick, Lynnette Lawson, Shaun Ingold, Laurie Fraser, David Eberhardt, Bryan Dizmang, Mac DeHart, and Dan Cameron. They were excited to have Mrs. Prior and Mrs. Hohl teaching them the things they had heard so much about on Sesame Street. Even though they were divided into two different groups, they always found time to get together and play pilgrim. The class moved on to the first grade without Shaun or Laurie, who decided they were bored with Wauneta, but Dan Baker helped to fill the space. In the first grade the youngsters had their first tries at romance. Mrs. Creger taught them how to write letters and to play seven-up. The fifteen kids were joined by Staci Wood and Jesse Bryer as they entered Mrs. Fortkamps second grade class. The students enjoyed second grade the most on Fridays when they were allowed to get out the colored chalk and create beautiful pictures. They were also fond of the nibble bucket. As the students entered the third grade Jesse left them and Staci informed them she liked second grade too much to leave. The third graders were pleased to meet their four new classmates; Sam Trotzke, Trent Minneman, Virginia Copeland, and Kevin Brott. The class enjoyed Mrs. Applegarths spelling contests, games of elimination, and the bike hike. The new fourth graders were sorry to say good-bye to Kellie, who was spending the year in Conneticut, and Sam T. They did meet a new character named Chris Johnson. Mrs. Petch tried to keep the young and the restless under control, but they rebelled when she refused to give them an afternoon recess. The students went on strike refusing to do any work and created such a sight with their picket signs that the Breeze was called in. Under the supervision of Mr. Lauhead the class seemed to mellow. Also the homecoming of Kellie and the addition of Sheryl Weber helped. The class was into disco that year and practiced their moves to their favorite song Knock on Wood. The class also worked on a remote control airplane which never got off the ground. As sixth graders they felt honored to have their own lockers. They were so well liked that they were invited on the eighth graders trip to Wyoming. Unfortunatly, only the sixth and seventh graders went. The trip was enjoyed by all except Kevin who accidently got his finger smashed. The class said good-bye that year to Chris J., Chris M., and Gene. As seventh grade started Sheryl moved away at the same time Matthew Heskett, Richie Wickizer, and Shari Jones move in. In Jr. High the students were allowed to pursue their sports interests in football, volleyball, basketball, and track. As the students were opening their minds to new ideas, Kellie Krausnick and her family were tragically taken from them by a plane crash. The class will always remember Kellie and the good times. Richie moved away as the class moved to eighth grade. The students kept busy by tormenting their various teachers until the time of eighth grade graduation. Their colors were rainbow and the song was Truly. At the end of the school year they were hauled out and painted with lipstick to signify their coming into high school. As Freshman they met their newest class members, John Lovenburg and Eric Broadbent, while they said good-bye to Shari. Together they experienced their first tries at big time sports, typing, welding, driving, and high school tests. The Sophomore class was really getting it together as they received their class rings. The students said good-bye to Virginia, and John also left to pursue his military career. Ten of the students were dressed like pirates that year to please the prom goers. The fourteen students moved up to being Juniors, and as they moved up, so did their goals. One of their main goals was raising enough money for prom. The goal was reached and prom went smoothly. The year 1987 at last arrived for the fourteen eager students. Ten of the original students stayed until the class's final day. Each of the students will remember the others in different ways, but all will remember the lunches at the pub, the cruising of main, the teachers wit and wisdom, the defeats, and victories. They are now prepared for the future and each will find their dream. STANBAR ANIMAL HOSPITAL SANDY'S COUNTRY FORD As Mr. Wentz reminisced over all the classes he had the pleasure of watching graduate from WHS, he wondered what happened to the class of 87, the first senior class he supervised at Wauneta. Trying to locate each of these seniors he went to Mr. Thompson, the class sponsor, for assistance. Mr. Thompson revealed to Mr. Wentz a letter he had received from his best music student Anita Wheeler. In this letter she mentioned she would be passing through Wauneta on tour after just being accepted to join the musical talents of the Bruce Willis band. Earlier on tour with Bruce Willis she ran into Dan Baker, literally ran into Dan, as he was parking one of his new cars in HIS showroom. Dan revealed to Anita that he now owns the biggest car manufacturing company located throughout the U.S. Anita, while in Hollywood with Bruce, read in the National Enquirer that Trent Minneman was tied up in a law suit with Joan Collins. Joan was suing Trent for $3.5 million dollars for making a libelous statement about her chasity. Mr. Wentz had learned about a couple of former students from Anita but wanted to know the where abouts of the rest. He contacted Lynnette Lawson, who is working on the campaign of Jon Broadbent. Mr. Broadbent is hoping to become the President of the United States. Lynnette. using her spare time from the campaign as an aid to Mrs. Hanna's business classes, was available at the school to converse with Mr. Wentz. Lynnette informed Mr. Wentz that she had heard Lori Maddux on the radio as DJ for WKRP in Cinncinati. Lori was broadcasting that Samantha Martin had won the House Wife of the Year Award for raising eight children and still keeping her sanity. Lori also revealed that Samantha and her husband were opening a day car center in Wauneta. Lynnette told Mr. Wentz that while reading a postcard from Brad Yost, who is in Alaska living as a fishing mountain man, saw on the T.V. Kelly Kitt running water out to the huddle of the Houston Oilers as their main waterboy. While watching Kelly on the T.V., Lynnette noted the game was interrupted by a special broadcast. Matthew Heskett appeared on the screen to reveal his predictions of when the world would end. Matthew, whose predictions have mostly been correct, was asking for contributions. He wanted to make sure he was able to keep making his predictions in his Malibu mansion. Matthew stated that if he received enough contributions, he might be able to preserve the life of the world. Lynnette allowed Mr. Wentz to read a letter she had received from Joni Travis, who was traveling abroad in France. Joni was touring France as a representative of her husband's small but hostile country of Purdily. Joni was accompanied by Mrs. Richards as her interpreter. Joni was unable to complete her Senior course of first-year French. Joni wrote that while making an earlier trip to New York, she had run into David Eberhardt. They had talked for many hours, when in this time he revealed that he was the head of the Mafia ring. He had kidnapped Loni Anderson and was keeping her as his prisoner hostage. After visting with David in New York, Joni had had the pleasure of dining out with Mac DeHart. Mac was just promoted to a four star general. He was making plans for his campaign of New York Senator. Mac let Joni know of the whereabouts of Dan Cameron and Eric Broadbent. Dan had recently returned from the jungles of Viet Nam and was in the process of tracking down Eric Broadbent, who is the head of the spy ring against the U.S. Dan is trying to capture Eric for his trial at the Supreme Court of the United States. Eric is being charged for breaking into the Pentagon's multi-million dollar computer system and for revealing the U.S. defense secrets to the terrorists. Mr. Wentz, now knowing where all of his class of '87 had gone, thought of how well everyone had turned out. He was sure it was because he had come to work at the good ole WHS. Lori Maddux wills Nikki McBride her ability to procrastinate in Mrs. Hanna's and maintain a passing grade and to Brenda Lacy her common sense to stay out of trouble. Samantha Martin wills Linn Hendrix munch more fun on many more Saturday nights and to Leslie Houser all the fun times and the hard decisions that come along with being a Senior. Trent Minneman wills Doug Terry one of his spare girlfriends. Joni Travis wills Kim Lambert her little black book which will enable her to keep track of her many men and to Kris Steinke her shyness. Prom servers for the event were David Bird, Jill George, Brian Yost, Angi Buffington, Rod Haarberg, and LeeAnne Green. They were attired in black with black eye masks. They performed the skit Getting Ready for Prom. The meal prepared by the Junior mothers consisted of ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, rolls, and iced tea. For dessert cake was served. Crowning of the royalty was a highlight midway through the dance. Crowned oueen and king were Lori Maddux and Dan Cameron. Attendants included Lynnette Lawson and Brad Yost, and Anita Wheeler and Kelly Kitt. After the dance a movie was shown at the Chateau Theatre.
