STUCO OFFICERS Mr. Matthews-Sponsor, Jane J. --News reporter COUNCIL Do you know what is happening in Student Council? This year Wauneta's Student Council has joined the State and District Student Council Association. In the fall there is a State Convention where Student Council members from all over Nebraska get together and discuss problems. Also there are district workshops, one in the fall and one in the spring. The proposed goals for this year's Council were: 1. To get you as a student at Wauneta, involved in the Student Council—thus involving you with the improvement of the school. 2. To gain the trust of the student body, the administration, the school board, the parents of the students, and the community as a whole so the Council will be more effective. 3. To take the rightful place in the operation of the school, as the governing arm of the student body. a. To replace the ineligibility list with a more effective method of motivating students. b. To try to get rid of some of the red tape for the students and faculty of Wauneta High. This includes pink slips, excuses, etc. ACTIVITIES c. To try to make the organizations more meaningful and productive and to elminate some of the organizations which are no longer needed. To achieve these goals the students need to accept responsibility and work with the Student Council. If students want to have more freedoms, and want to be treated like adults, they have to prove themselves trustworthy and able to handle responsibilities. Students need to realize that unless they work together and overcome their reluctance to insist on good citizenship from fellow students, they will never receive these responsibilities. Remember, it is we, the students, that must keep pride in our school; and to do this we need cooperation and respect among students!
