iV (p °(r 7 THE BROfJCO Utglv Qchoot WcuMtou, NeWtskfr Bdttvis' Message The time has passed swiftly, and it is now the end of our senior year here at Wauneta High School. T years have brought many new experiences to all, and it is our privilege to sum up the events of 1965-66. Now that our annual is completed, we look back and recall the many long hours we have spent working on the 1966 Bronco to make it a success. Many times we found ourselves discouraged; at times we were almost ready to quit. But now as we look at the result, we feel satisfied with ourselves; for we have done the best we are capable of doing. Nothing can be a success without the help of many people who contribute their time and efforts. We, as editors, would like to thank the staff--the sales staff for their help in selling ads so that we could produce our annual--and the editing staff, whose faithful work put these pages together. We’d like to thank Mrs. Carrigan for all the help she’s given us. Next we’d like to thank all the people who have given us pictures to use. Also special thanks go to E, N. Berry and to Ivo Pennington for all the pictures they have given us and to the people who sponsored our pages. We appreciate the opportunity we have had to serve our class and our school as editors of the 1965 BRONCO. We will always remember it as a great privilege and honor to have been able to contribute in this way— —Editors of the 1966 BRONCO Co-Editors: Sponsor: Editorial Staff: 0 ?nvYua J r ?7ljrtr L 7 v $iu lbnl o-'L- -''7 Do You Kuxhap ........the spectacled man with the ready smile, whose friendly attitude inspires laughter from his students?........ If so, you know MR. GARY GOODCHUCK, an intelligent and understanding teacher, who is willing to lend a hand in anything where help is needed. He has made us look within ourselves and laugh; he has pushed us farther along the road to maturity. His calm resolution and perspective have taken away our anger and substituted understanding. How can we say thank you” to a man who has done all this? We dedicate this 1966 Bronco to you, Mr. Goodchuck----------Thank You for all you have done for us during these four years we have been in high school. fi(kwA tnAdi04 V DELBERT D. SCHMIDT, Superintendent Usssoge Our past educational efforts have rewarded the citizens of the United States with one of the highest standards of living ever known to civilization. We enjoy better housing, entertainment, transportation, communication, and health conditions than many of us could have imagined no less than thirty years ago. Certainly educational costs need to be evaluated in terms of the personal advantages we enjoy every day. The amount of money invested in a child’s education seems very worth while when compared to the cost of caring for a patient in a mental hospital or for an inmate in a prison. Another comparison which brings such educational investment into sharper focus is to estimate what it would cost one as an individual to educate each of his own children privately. For one, I am happy to have the opportunity to live in the United States and to attempt to repay those who helped with my education by providing even better educational opportunities for those who need them now. r , School Bowl U tobM L to R - Jim Arenz, Bill Stock, A. At the beginning of the year 1962 there were many new faces added to the halls of Wauneta High School, Their names were Robert Alvord, Eddie Arenz, Linda Bacon, Nelda Baldonado, I,ois Bartels, Pam Brown, Mickey Brunkhorst, Dick Buffington. Neil Christensen, Billy DeHart, Pat Denker. Connie Dicke, Linda Edwards. Jack Fanning, Pat Gauger, Randy Gerih. Jerry Graves. Ray Gunderson, Richard Hamilton. Kenneth Hays, Jerry Hettinger, Nancy Hill. Leane Kerchal, John Kitt, Larry Kitt. Jack Legg, Doug McCallum, Ron O'Neil. Michael Ough, Beverlee Polly, Marius Prior, Marilyn Rietsch, Jo Ruettimann. Linda Stock, Gwen Stute, David Teply, Junior Thompson, Gary Wach, Rebecca Moreau, and Rose Moreau. Kelly Nordhausen joined us later on in the year. As we began our Sophomore year, we found that we had lost five of our classmates. Our class was saddened by the loss of Kelly Nordhausen, who had died in the summer. Dick Buffington. Randy Gerih, and Rebecca and Rose Moreau moved away. Judy Scheffel, Orville Erickson, and Ronald Purdy became the new members of our class. Before the year had ended, we had lost the newest members, Orville Erickson and Ronald Purdy. Randy Gerih moved back to Wauneta and once again joined our class, the junior class. We also gained I-arry Channel this year. We had lost Nancy Hill. Judy Scheffel, and Lois Bartels, but Judy Scheffel rejoined our class at the last part of the year. Opening registration in the fall of 1965 began a memorable year at good old Wauneta High. Eager to renew old friendships, but not so eager to resume classes, students returned from the shortest summer ever to begin this school year. For the new seniors, this was the year to be the rulers of W. H. S. As the confusion subsided, the year began to progress smoothly. The days flew by, and with them many experiences. We can remember the wild excitement of the first touchdown, the casual moments of conversation with friends, and the countless hours of study both in and out of the classroom. We lost Randy Gerih, Bill DeHart and Judy Scheffel this year and we gained no new members. Yes, school at W. H. S. has been work, but it has also been a lot of fun. We look back at all the things we have done during these high school years. We remember how hard the boys worked to win us those, football and basketball games, and how the girls yelled and worked to promote that abstract thing we call school spirit . We worked hard to put on the Prom last year, and to sponsor several banquets given by different organizations. We have participated in various organizations, music contests, and class plays. Then there were those outside activities we enjoyed, such as hanging colors and class parties. We sincerely appreciate all the help our wonderful teachers have given us, even though at times we have caused them a lot of trouble and grief. We are also thankful to our parents and others who have helped us. We thank God for giving us the opportunity to be educated in America, where we have freedom. Soon we, the CLASS OF 1966. will be leaving this student body and will be taking an important step in our future. With us we will take our individual dreams and thoughts and memories, many of which were molded in these very halls and rooms of Wauneta High School. s 6 W O' s O' k I 9 6 6 FOURTH ROW: Eddie Arenz, Leane Kerchal, Ron O'Neil, Jack Legg.
