CLASS HISTORY In the year of our Lord, 1950, twenty-nine children enrolled in the kindergarten class of the Wauneta Grade School, Miss Helen Howlett, now Mrs. Calvin Widger, taught Johnny Aarons, Lynn Anderson, Delores and Doris Browning, Elaine Coen, Jane Crapson, Donald Dillehay, Joe Dunham, Patty Egle, Ralph Fay, Betty Ferguson, Joe Gerih, Dennis Gockley, King Hanway, Ann Hoff, Ruth Ann Hunt, Martha Jaramillo, Carman Jones, Bobby Jones, Patsy Long, Judy Morgan, Lequita Morgan, John Per ter -field, Betty Lou Simns, Dorothy and Kenneth Smith, and Jerry Sutherland. In the first grade, we were joined by Joy Browning, Beverly Hunt, Virginia Kimble, Lynn Ann Neville, Madeline Ungles, Fred Baldonado, Bob McBride, and Monte Strickland. The people that dropped that year were Delores and Doris Browning, Betty Ferguson, Martha Jaramillo, Patsy Long, Lequita and Patty Morgan, Dorothy and Kenneth Smith, and Ralph Fay. The teacher was Mrs. Wayne Eisenhart. The new members in the second grade were Wayne Kitt, Jimmy Long, Ronald Prior, Linley Wilson, and Joyce Hays. We lost Joy Browning, Jimmy Long, Fred Baldonado, Linley Wilson, Patty Ele, ElaimeCoen, Bob McBride, Beverly Hunt, Joe Dunham, and Lynn Anderson before the year was over. Our teacher was Miss Betty Knotwell. When we started grade three, our class numbered twenty-one. New members were Bob McBride, Ronnie Ann Gates, and JoAnn Stock, but we lost John Aarons, Ruth Ann Hunt, John Porterfield, and Monte Strickland. This year our teacher was Mrs. Edna Voseipka. Nita Fortkamp, Beverly Hunt, Dorothy and Kenneth Smith, Kathryn Terry, Connie Tomlin, Carolyn Newman, Nancy Smith, and Harry Davis joined us in grade four. At the close of the year, we lost Carolyn Newman, Nancy Smith, Kathryn Terry, King Hanway, Harry Davis, and Madeline Ungles. Mrs. Lucille Pierece was our teacher. Mrs. Russell Polly was our teacher for the next two years. In the fifth grade, Gayle Jensen and Kent Haarberg joined us, but Ronnie Ann Gates, Donald Dillehay, and Connie Tomlin moved out of town. Gerald Gerih was a new member of our class in the sixth grade and Gayle Jensen and Virginia Kimble left us later in the year. Our seventh grade teacher was Mrs. Arline d'Allemand. Only one new member, Keith Buffington, joined us, but Wayne Kitt, Lynn Ann Neville, and Madeline Ungles moved out of town. In our final year of grade school, our class numbered twenty, and our teacher was Tom Hill. Only one new member, Judi Walker, joined us this year. Gerald Gerih dropped out of school. Mrs. Mabel Scriven was our principal during our years in grade school. In 1959, twenty-seven scared freshmen started their first year of high school. The new members of our class were Royce Bernard, Evelyn Becker, Sheila Greeley, Susan Hollinger, Nancy Parker, Donald O’Neil, Patty Weber, and Donald Wicki. Betty Simns moved away at the first of this year. In 1960, we had two new members, Jim Hudson and Jerry Williams. We lost Judi Walker, who moved to Minnesota, Donald Wicki, who transferred to Seward, Concordia, and Joe Gerih at the close of our sophomore year. In 1961, our Junior Class had decreased to twenty-three. We had no new members but Jerry Williams transferred to Colorado Springs, Colorado, Judy Morgan transferred to Bayard, Nebraska, and Royce Bernard dropped out of school at the end of this year. In 1962, our final year of high school, we numbered as twenty seniors. We had no additions or subtractions. We have had four wonderful years full of happy memories of our high school years under our superintendent, Mr. C. J. Sutherland, and our many other teachers. These are the years we will remember forever. 16
