Text from Pages 1 - 60 of the 1963 volume:

We, the Seniors, are proud to dedicate the 1963 Bronco to an outstanding man of our community. He has helped us in every possible way from the lending of novels to taking carloads of athletic boys to our games. If we need something special he will drop his work to help us. He has proved to be helpful in many cases. He lias deep respect, admiration, loyalty, and appreciation in each of our hearts. To our friend, Mr. Junior Berry, who is well deserving of every honor he receives, we dedicate the 1963 Bronco. 2 FACULTY C.J. SUTHERLAND Superintendent A. B. Nebraska State College at Kearney M. S. Our guests will be arriving any time now for the reunion of the Class of 63. Speaking of guests, here come the first ones now. Say, isn't that Ann Hoff and Ron Prior? I hear he's a big electronics engineer now and Ann keeps up with teaching and running a home too. I'd better go show them where to sit. Who's that right behind them in a uniform? Why, it looks like Bev Hunt. I didn't know she was in the WACS. Oh, yes, I guess she's got a pretty important job-waking up the whole camp with her famous bugle call. I wonder who that could be with a police escort and all. Well, it's Sheila Greeley, first woman president. It was always rumored that she could talk her way into anything. And there's her Right Hand Jane Crapson. I guess Sheila doesn't make any decision without consenting Jane first. There's her chauffeur right behind her. .Oh, no, it couldn't be. But it is! Susan Hollinger. She always did have a knack for driving Somebody answer that photo-phone will you? Hello. .Yes. .What? You say you won't be able to come? Well, I'm awfully sorry.. .yes, we'll save you a piece of cake. Bye.. . .That was Carman Jones. You know she's a famous lawyer now and has a big case she's working on. Stock vs Smith. You remember Kenny Smith don't you? Well, he’s a big rancher now and it seems that some of his horses keep getting onto the lawn of the orphanage where Jo Ann Stock is teaching now. Here comes Jerry Sutherland. I hear he owns his own golf course and has turned professional. Well, there's Evelyn Becker. I am surprised she got here. She has a whole string of hotels on the moon, and to think it all started from some idea of hers' in high school. I guess she was going to turn some old house into a hotel or something along that line. Who's that with her? Oh! That’s Don O'Neil. He's the chief guy in charge of Evelyn's Hotel Parking Lot. I guess he's only had 13 wrecks this past year. Pretty good, huh? What's that terrific noise? Oh, that's just Bob Jone.s coming for a landing in his supersonic spaceship. He's got a pretty big motor in it, plus a set of Turn Straights. Well, our Chief of Police, Bob McBride, will take care of him. He's one guy that is really on his toes when it comes to enforcing the law. Here come the cars from Hollywood. Dot Smith is in the first one. As far as I'm concerned, she's the best recording star since Connie Francis. Evidently her agent, Nita Fortkamp, thinks so too, or else she wouldn't have put up all her life pavings to get Dot into the business. There's Pat Weber in the second car. I hear she's practically a second Liz Taylor. She's got her agent, Keith Buff, with her too. He always did like to be around girls and I guess he thought that was one sure way. Here come the last two guests. The first one is Denny Gockley, the big-time all-star football player. He retired about 3 years ago on the money he made playing pro-football. Kent Haarberg is right behind him. He's pretty busy guy now, with his 10,000 acre farm on Mars. Well, I guess everyone is accounted for, so let's get this party rolling! 15 CLASS HISTORY In the year of our Lord, 1950, twenty-nine children enrolled in the kindergarten class of the Wauneta Grade School, Miss Helen Howlett, now Mrs. Calvin Widger, taught Johnny Aarons, Lynn Anderson, Delores and Doris Browning, Elaine Coen, Jane Crapson, Donald Dillehay, Joe Dunham, Patty Egle, Ralph Fay, Betty Ferguson, Joe Gerih, Dennis Gockley, King Hanway, Ann Hoff, Ruth Ann Hunt, Martha Jaramillo, Carman Jones, Bobby Jones, Patsy Long, Judy Morgan, Lequita Morgan, John Per ter -field, Betty Lou Simns, Dorothy and Kenneth Smith, and Jerry Sutherland. The people that dropped that year were Delores and Doris Browning, Betty Ferguson, Martha Jaramillo, Patsy Long, Lequita and Patty Morgan, Dorothy and Kenneth Smith, and Ralph Fay. The teacher was Mrs. Wayne Eisenhart. The new members in the second grade were Wayne Kitt, Jimmy Long, Ronald Prior, Linley Wilson, and Joyce Hays. We lost Joy Browning, Jimmy Long, Fred Baldonado, Linley Wilson, Patty Ele, ElaimeCoen, Bob McBride, Beverly Hunt, Joe Dunham, and Lynn Anderson before the year was over. Our teacher was Miss Betty Knotwell. When we started grade three, our class numbered twenty-one. New members were Bob McBride, Ronnie Ann Gates, and JoAnn Stock, but we lost John Aarons, Ruth Ann Hunt, John Porterfield, and Monte Strickland. This year our teacher was Mrs. Edna Voseipka. Nita Fortkamp, Beverly Hunt, Dorothy and Kenneth Smith, Kathryn Terry, Connie Tomlin, Carolyn Newman, Nancy Smith, and Harry Davis joined us in grade four. At the close of the year, we lost Carolyn Newman, Nancy Smith, Kathryn Terry, King Hanway, Harry Davis, and Madeline Ungles. Mrs. Lucille Pierece was our teacher. Mrs. Russell Polly was our teacher for the next two years. In the fifth grade, Gayle Jensen and Kent Haarberg joined us, but Ronnie Ann Gates, Donald Dillehay, and Connie Tomlin moved out of town. Gerald Gerih was a new member of our class in the sixth grade and Gayle Jensen and Virginia Kimble left us later in the year. Our seventh grade teacher was Mrs. Arline d'Allemand. Only one new member, Keith Buffington, joined us, but Wayne Kitt, Lynn Ann Neville, and Madeline Ungles moved out of town. In our final year of grade school, our class numbered twenty, and our teacher was Tom Hill. Only one new member, Judi Walker, joined us this year. Gerald Gerih dropped out of school. Mrs. Mabel Scriven was our principal during our years in grade school. In 1959, twenty-seven scared freshmen started their first year of high school. The new members of our class were Royce Bernard, Evelyn Becker, Sheila Greeley, Susan Hollinger, Nancy Parker, Donald O’Neil, Patty Weber, and Donald Wicki. Betty Simns moved away at the first of this year. In 1960, we had two new members, Jim Hudson and Jerry Williams. We lost Judi Walker, who moved to Minnesota, Donald Wicki, who transferred to Seward, Concordia, and Joe Gerih at the close of our sophomore year. In 1961, our Junior Class had decreased to twenty-three. We had no new members but Jerry Williams transferred to Colorado Springs, Colorado, Judy Morgan transferred to Bayard, Nebraska, and Royce Bernard dropped out of school at the end of this year. In 1962, our final year of high school, we numbered as twenty seniors. We had no additions or subtractions. We have had four wonderful years full of happy memories of our high school years under our superintendent, Mr. C. J. Sutherland, and our many other teachers. These are the years we will remember forever. 16 UNDERCLASSMEN D. Resler D. Egle S. Yost Janet Krausnick V. McBride President V. President Secretary Treasurer Student Council JUNIORS D. Baldonado F.
