'P'tofiAeccf On June 1, 1970, The Queen Kilanea cruised into the dock of Hawaiian Village. A limousine pulled up beside the gangway to welcome the people aboard, to Hawaiian Village. While coming through the gangway we noticed a motorcycle stopped beside the limousine. Jack Hunt, now a patrolman, wrote out a ticket for speeding and handed it to Betty Muths. Betty came to greet us and introduced us to Jack. After Jack had gone we learned that Betty was now the proprietor of a chain of Falls Banks. We congratulated Betty on her success, and drove to the magnificent Harvest Home, which was designed by Marc Rueter, a well-known architect. He is now busy working on a government job building a bridge to another island. We were greeted at the hotel by the manager, Kenneth Lewis, who also owns a ranch several miles from the village. After resting awhile we decided to go sightseeing. Stopping at the desk to leave the key, we noticed the telephone operator. Recognizing the red hair, we went over and said hello to Kathy Heldenbrand. We found out from her that several of our friends were now living in Hawaiian Village. Going out on the patio we saw Colleen McBride. Colleen told us she is the private secretary of a successful lawyer. They had court session that afternoon so we left them and began our tour. We stopped in at a coffee shop to get lunch. On television was the Dodger and Yankee ball-game. We recognized Meridith French, now a pitcher for the Dodger’s. After returning from the tour, we went to the lobby. We fell asleep and were awakened by the noise of several people entering the hotel. Then we remembered reading about the Teachers' Convention this week. Carol Daniel, a history teacher, and Bill Edwards, a science teacher, came over and sat down beside us. We learned from our conversation with them that they had both been teaching in the local high school for three years. After dressing for dinner, we went to the dining room. The manager introduced two special guests for the evening; Elaine Anderson and Nancy McBride, two fashion designers. A model was introduced wearing the latest hair-do designed by Elaine and an exquisite gown by Nancy. The next morning after breakfasting on the patio we decided to go to the new x-ray clinic designed by Jerry Skelton. At the register desk we recognized the nurse as Mary Fortkamp. She told us that Stuart Kitt and Gene d’Allemand were the X-ray technicans for the clinic. We stopped by to tell them hello while we were there. We returned just in time to the hotel to be invited to a ranch rodeo and barbecue. When we arrived at the ranch we learned that it was owned by Sharon Hewitt and Kent Buffington. After the barbecue they held the rodeo. The highlights of the evening were the winning of the bull-riding event by Craig Gibbons and Pete Fanning’s winning the bronk riding event. We stayed at the ranch to visit with Kent and Sharon after the rodeo. They told us that Allan Fischer was their foreman, but was away at the time on business. Returning to the hotel we saw Faustine Cox. She told us that she was living on a neighboring island. After saying goodbye to her we went to our rooms. We spent several enjoyable weeks at the Hawaiian Village, and then secured passage on Queen Kilanea. We were greeted by the receptionist, Kathy Einspahr. She is also social director of the ship. Returning to our home in Wauneta, we were very pleased to have seen all our former classmates and to know that they had all done so well. 13
