Senior Class Prophecy One day in the middle of July 1975, I decided to take a space cruise around the universe to get away from the Earth's heat. As I entered the rocket taxi, I ran into the most famous scientist of our time, Professor Joe Rietsch and his laboratory assistant, Patricia Polly. They were going to Venus to the Annual Scientists Convention. Just as the taxi was preparing for flight a newly-wed couple hurried across the field to catch the taxi. As they came closer, I recognized Lenna Gauger and Everett Keiser from the old class of 60. For their honeymoon, they were going to Venus to take in some of that planet's beautiful scenery. I wish for them the best of luck! While the taxi was refueling of an asteroid between Venus and Earth, I took time to run in to see Judy Stock, the main chef of the Halfway Restaurant. Because she had had a lot of experience in restaurant work when she was in high school, she has started several branches in various planets. On Mars we stopped to get a new supply of air-sick pills. These had to be secured at the hospital so I ran in to see another old classmate, Rita Petr. It seems she attained her goal about becoming a nurse, and, even more, she is Chief Nurse. She told me that Ilene Berry had also received her R.N. Degree and she is now Rita's chief assistant. I had just enough time to say 'hello' to Vema Ingold as I left. She was sitting behind the switchboard doing her best not to become too confused so she wouldn't Goof. From Mars we went straight to Jupiter where we arrived just in time to see the annual Universal Track Meet. Upon inquiring I found that three of my former classmates were to participate in the meet. I wasn't surprised to find that they were Roger Deininger, George Ziegler and Gary Kitt. All of these boys had shown remarkable athletic talents in high school. Since our next stop was Earth, I decided to charter a small plane to take me to Wyoming. I had a very nice chat with Janice and Janette Thompson and Nola Troxel. They told me that they were doing real well and that they planned to enlarge their acreage to 500,000 acres. It seems they had had a stroke of good luck with some cattle and had been able to enlarge the herd and acreage as years went by. Incidentally I missed my plane, so I had to stay overnight on Earth. The next morning, bright and early, a new taxi took me to the moon where I had a nice time reminiscing with Jeannie Crow and Sharon Kerchal. They were both working behind information desks. Also working at the terminal was Linda Springer. She told me she was the stenographer for the President of the airlines. She deserves a nice job like that because she was always the fastest writer in Shorthand back in Mr. Stark's class. On the moon I had to transfer to a rather ancient ship because it was the only one scheduled to go to Saturn. And as luck would have it, the ship was struck by a small asteroid and we had to make a forced landing on one of Jupiter's many moons. We just missed colliding with Jim Maxfield, who was preparing to make some deliveries for the Roller Mills, His own business firm. He told us to go to the T and S Garage because the mechanics there were supposed to be the best. After much searching we found the T and S Garage. Guess what T and S stood for? Charles Teply and Harry Straub, the proprietors, no less. They had our ship fixed in no time so we continued on to Saturn. We arrived on Saturn just in time for me to look up Kent Doekter. He told me that he was running a large tourist place, along with a horse ranch, with the help of Gary Greeley, his partner, and Allen Nordhausen, his main foreman. I stayed overnight in one of their luxurious cabins and got up in time to take a horseback ride with the boys before my taxi was ready to leave. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing those boys again. Just before we landed on Uranus we almost had a collision with a Hot-rocketer who was being chased by a space-patrolman. When.we landed I found that it was Bill Terry who had just been trying out his new rocket. It seems that he had just gotten through zooping it up, for the Semi-final drag races. And just for this little exhibit he was fined $600 for reckless rocketing. I did get to talk to him while he was waiting to pay his fine. I guess he'll never leam. While we were on Neptune I remembered that some of my former classmates lived there so I decided to look them up. Unluckily for me they were starting the filming of the movie Planet Gangwars. Because Genevieve DeHart was to be their main star I didn't get a chance to talk to her. But I did run into the producer, Jean Maris, and the director, Ardith Lapp. They told me that they had done very well for themselves and they were hoping for an award for producing the best movie of the year. Also Genevieve was expecting to receive the Academy Award for being the best actress. I hope they receive their awards! Since our last stop was Pluto, I decided to spend the last few days of my trip at the racetrack. Much to my surprise I ran into all of my high school teachers there. Among them were Mr. Sutherland, Mr. Scheuler, Mr. Debus, Miss Ihrig, Mrs. Ough, Miss Gilkeson, Mr. Rose, and Mr. Simmons. They coaxed me into placing bets with each of them for the three main races. The winners of those three main races were Marilyn Haarberg on Flying Ace, Pamela Resler on Blue Fire, and Phyliss Brunt on White Flame. I hope your bets turn out better than mine because I lost to every one of those teachers! By Phyliss Brunt, Pamela Resler, Gary Kitt, and Ardith Lapp 12
