For what then would we be remembered? Naturally we evidenced many weaknesses--we cannot say that this was the best class ever to be graduated from Wauneta High--such judgment is beyond our limits. But we have accepted our challenge and exerted a definite drive forward--each in his chosen realm. As freshmen and now seniors, we represent a variety in potential and a variety in fulfillment. The evolution of specific talents—this was the course of our human history. We would be remembered then as strivers. ILENE BERRY As long as I can talk, I'll be all right. PHYLISS BRUNT Why wasn't I bom rich instead of beautiful. BARBARA CROW I'll show 'em. ROGER DEININCER Wonder what it's like out there. To the Freshmen we will all the fun we had in our high school days. Make good use of it, Freshmen. In witness we, the class of 1960, set our hands and seal on this the 11 Senior Class Prophecy One day in the middle of July 1975, I decided to take a space cruise around the universe to get away from the Earth's heat. As I entered the rocket taxi, I ran into the most famous scientist of our time, Professor Joe Rietsch and his laboratory assistant, Patricia Polly. They were going to Venus to the Annual Scientists Convention. Just as the taxi was preparing for flight a newly-wed couple hurried across the field to catch the taxi. As they came closer, I recognized Lenna Gauger and Everett Keiser from the old class of 60. For their honeymoon, they were going to Venus to take in some of that planet's beautiful scenery. I wish for them the best of luck! While the taxi was refueling of an asteroid between Venus and Earth, I took time to run in to see Judy Stock, the main chef of the Halfway Restaurant. Because she had had a lot of experience in restaurant work when she was in high school, she has started several branches in various planets. On Mars we stopped to get a new supply of air-sick pills. These had to be secured at the hospital so I ran in to see another old classmate, Rita Petr. It seems she attained her goal about becoming a nurse, and, even more, she is Chief Nurse. She told me that Ilene Berry had also received her R.N. Degree and she is now Rita's chief assistant. I had just enough time to say 'hello' to Vema Ingold as I left. She was sitting behind the switchboard doing her best not to become too confused so she wouldn't Goof. From Mars we went straight to Jupiter where we arrived just in time to see the annual Universal Track Meet. Upon inquiring I found that three of my former classmates were to participate in the meet. I wasn't surprised to find that they were Roger Deininger, George Ziegler and Gary Kitt. All of these boys had shown remarkable athletic talents in high school. Since our next stop was Earth, I decided to charter a small plane to take me to Wyoming. I had a very nice chat with Janice and Janette Thompson and Nola Troxel. They told me that they were doing real well and that they planned to enlarge their acreage to 500,000 acres. It seems they had had a stroke of good luck with some cattle and had been able to enlarge the herd and acreage as years went by. Incidentally I missed my plane, so I had to stay overnight on Earth. The next morning, bright and early, a new taxi took me to the moon where I had a nice time reminiscing with Jeannie Crow and Sharon Kerchal. They were both working behind information desks. Also working at the terminal was Linda Springer. She told me she was the stenographer for the President of the airlines. She deserves a nice job like that because she was always the fastest writer in Shorthand back in Mr. Stark's class. On the moon I had to transfer to a rather ancient ship because it was the only one scheduled to go to Saturn. And as luck would have it, the ship was struck by a small asteroid and we had to make a forced landing on one of Jupiter's many moons. We just missed colliding with Jim Maxfield, who was preparing to make some deliveries for the Roller Mills, His own business firm. He told us to go to the T and S Garage because the mechanics there were supposed to be the best. After much searching we found the T and S Garage. Guess what T and S stood for? Charles Teply and Harry Straub, the proprietors, no less. They had our ship fixed in no time so we continued on to Saturn. We arrived on Saturn just in time for me to look up Kent Doekter. He told me that he was running a large tourist place, along with a horse ranch, with the help of Gary Greeley, his partner, and Allen Nordhausen, his main foreman. I stayed overnight in one of their luxurious cabins and got up in time to take a horseback ride with the boys before my taxi was ready to leave. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing those boys again. Just before we landed on Uranus we almost had a collision with a Hot-rocketer who was being chased by a space-patrolman. When.we landed I found that it was Bill Terry who had just been trying out his new rocket. It seems that he had just gotten through zooping it up, for the Semi-final drag races. And just for this little exhibit he was fined $600 for reckless rocketing. I did get to talk to him while he was waiting to pay his fine. I guess he'll never leam. While we were on Neptune I remembered that some of my former classmates lived there so I decided to look them up. Unluckily for me they were starting the filming of the movie Planet Gangwars. Because Genevieve DeHart was to be their main star I didn't get a chance to talk to her. But I did run into the producer, Jean Maris, and the director, Ardith Lapp. They told me that they had done very well for themselves and they were hoping for an award for producing the best movie of the year. Also Genevieve was expecting to receive the Academy Award for being the best actress. I hope they receive their awards! Since our last stop was Pluto, I decided to spend the last few days of my trip at the racetrack. Much to my surprise I ran into all of my high school teachers there. Among them were Mr. Sutherland, Mr. Scheuler, Mr. Debus, Miss Ihrig, Mrs. Ough, Miss Gilkeson, Mr. Rose, and Mr. Simmons. They coaxed me into placing bets with each of them for the three main races. The winners of those three main races were Marilyn Haarberg on Flying Ace, Pamela Resler on Blue Fire, and Phyliss Brunt on White Flame. I hope your bets turn out better than mine because I lost to every one of those teachers! Mr. C. J. Sutherland is the advisor. The other members are Cathy Haarberg, Sheila Greeley, Pat Polly, Connie Carrigan, George Ziegler, and John Parker. The council is a group which represents the school as a whole. Each class and organization select one member to represent them on the council. These student's points of view are put to work in plans for school activities, which make it possible for the various organizations to work together for school improvement. The student council is responsible for school dances, parties, and all other activities in which the school participates. Under the direction of Mr. Stark the Paper Staff has been reorganized into a regular class. From now on, a person will get the same credit from Paper Staff as they do from Band or Modern Choir. Meetings are held on Tuesday and Thursday. At the Tuesday meeting each person gets his column typed so it will be ready to be taken down to the Breeze office. Then at the Thursday meeting, they organize this material for the next week's column. Frequently a meeting is held so that all members can benefit by the suggestions and criticism of others. MAJORETTES Lenna Gauger, Pat Polly, Jeannie Crow, Phyllis Brunt, Linda Springer, and Rita Petr were Band Majorettes for the second consecutive year. They twirled their batons and did different routines while the band performed their shows at all of Wauneta's home games. They went to the Boulder Band Day with the band. The music department presented them with pins for their outstanding work. CHEERLEADERS The cheerleaders for the Pep Club this year were Genevieve DeHart, Sharon Hewitt, Colleen McBride, Jo Webber, Margaret DeHart, and Kathy Einspahr. Genevieve served as head cheerleader with Sharon and Colleen as the other two first team cheerleaders. The two little mascots were Candy Sue Goff and Nancy Scheuler. These girls did a fine job of leading the Bronco Boosters. A dance and reception for all of the combined bands was held after the show. The marching band was among the 98 bands to attend Band Day at Boulder. They didn't get to give their show but they did receive excellent ratings on their street marching. The concert band attended several clinics and gave several enjoyable concerts. Outstanding members of the band will attend the Honor Band at Holyoke. The band council was elected by members of the band. Ilene Berry was chosen as the Wauneta High School Best Bandsman at our Annual Band Banquet. She was presented with the Julana Gloy memorial traveling trophy. First-rate teachers are the key to quality education. Our school buildings were designed for the pupils, teachers, and curriculums of today. Because quality teachers, curriculums, and buildings cannot be obtained at discount prices, adequate financial support was necessary for the quality education that students of Wauneta High are offered. The curriculum offers many things of value and interest to each student. The growing complexity of life and the greater variety of individual needs of pupils require revision and expansion of courses of study. This need is met by a variety of classes ranging from Chemistry, Geometry, and History to English, Home Ec., Voc. Ag., and Typing. Wide experiences in life are offered by many activities, such as Athletics, Class Plays, Music, Assemblies, and School Publications. Yes, Wauneta High School is positive that education is important. 31 Classes Lunchroom Home Economics English 32 STEVENS' 7-UP BOTTLING COMPANY JOY'S CLOTHING Girls' Physical Education Junior — Senior Prom and Banquet Chinese lanterns, glass chimes, and a mural of a Chinese boy and girl set the mood of the Junior-Senior Banquet held on April 27, 1959. They were chosen by popular vote of the student body. The festivities of the 1959-60 WHS Homecoming were started early in the Homecoming week when the Bronco Boosters painted the downtown store windows. Thursday evening, a pep rally featuring the burning of the Haxtun dummy in a gigantic bonfire and a snake dance were held. Friday evening as the WHS players ran on the field, they passed through a large horseshoe of flowers made by the Pep Club Girls. The Pride of the Frenchman marching band played Because of You as background music during the half-time coronation. After the game, the Alumni Association gave a Homecoming Dance. Wiley Green and his band provided music for this very memorable occasion. Credit belongs to the Quarterback Club who supervised the operation. The field runs diagonal to north and south in a north, northeast direction. The Bronks, under the direction of Coaches Schueler and Debus and running out of a side-saddle offense, played their first game on the new field against Cambridge, but went down in defeat 14-7.
