Shirley Van Matre DEDICATION We of the Wauneta Rural High School wish to dedicate this annual to our deserving science professor, Mr. Loral Dunn. A graduate of the University of Nebraska, he has taken graduate work at the Univer sity of Michigan where he received his M. S. degree. Also he is furthering his education by attending summer school at the University of Colorado. Mr. Dunn has been teaching in the Wauneta High School since the year 1946 when he came from Benkelman where he had been Principal of the grade school. All students know him as a friend, an advisor, and a leader besides being an excellent teacher. He has gained the respect and admiration of everyone by his quiet, friendly, and sincere attitude. The hall was beautifully decorated with mermaids , fish, and treasure chests. This award, given each year to a senior F.F.A. member, is based on a supervised farming program, leadership, and co-operation. The Wauneta Chapter sent five teams to the State F.F.A. Contest on April 1,2, and 3, 1955. The awards won were: Superior--Livestock; Excellent--Farm Mechanics; Carpentry Division; and Poultry. The Chapter also entered the District VII Contest at McCook on February 16, 1955. This year the Chapter has entered the District VII F.F.A. Judging Contest to be held at North Platte and the State Contest at Lincoln to be held April 5,6, and 7. There were 160 present at the annual F.F.A. Parent-Son Banquet for 1955. Stan Smith, editor of the Wauneta Breeze, was elected as honorary Chapter Farmer. The Greenhands were presented. Those being advanced to Chapter Farmers were advanced by the officers. F. F. A. 33 OFFICERS CHEERLEADERS PEP CLUB 1 MAJORETTES 35 Janice Wade, a junior,was chosenas Best Bandsman by the members of the W.H.S. band. Jan was chosen for the many fine qualities she possesses. She was presented with a trophy by Mr. Buckner at the Band Banquet. The next four contenders were Shirley Knepper, Karen Nord-hausen, Jim Carlson, and Roger Deininger. G rank made up of Athenia Athey, Colleen McBride, Jim Maxfield, Danielle Morgan, and Karen Nordhausen was judged as the best rank at the First Annual Chase County Band Night. The rank performed the fundamentals, and then formed a note and played Music, Music, Music. These bandsmen were presented with honor pins by Mr. Buckner.
