MESSAGE Quo Vadis --- "Whither Goest Thou?" This is the question uppermost in our minds, the faculty - parents and rnyself. Now I would like to direct this question to you. Try a little self-analysis - have you done your best - are you doing your best - will you continue to do your best. If all your an- swers to these three questions are in the affirmative, you undoubtedly know where you are going. But if the answer is negative, you had better do a little self-evaluation and see what's wrong - then correct it. You are now seeking to establish yourselves in this community or some other that may not be alien. Some consider themselves inadequate to achieve real greatness in their chosen field so they take more advanced education. This does not mean youhave to go to college to make your mark in society. College only makes it easier for you to accomplish your goal. You have often heard the saying, "It is hard to keep a good man down. " Have you thought why? Because he is prepared to meet life. We have found you to be understanding. co-operative, and sincere in your many scholastic endeavors. We know that through the years you have become prepared to meet the goals you hope to achieve where-ever you go. If I, as principal, had a message for you it would be, "Where are you going?" when you can make an honest reply to this question you are on your way to success. . .35 .9 . , J. s .- 'f-fd-?I'f'2" n' Q 4 - g . 1,4 .,.g.,.,..,,-. ., s - .,s,s,,-.g.g-.,. - .,,.,1,,.,'. THE HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF I955 History has been written about important persons and things but you will agree there isn't a better or more important subject for history than our class of '55, In 1943 an eager group of boys and girls entered Watertown Elementary School. Sixteen of these are in our Senior Class. They are: Ted Wright, Dot Bailey, Glen Beard, Gerald Cowan, Virginia Ann Jacobs, Don Hudson, Jessie Ruth Russell, Elbert Mathis, Don McClanahan, Marie Hall, Richard Donnell, Ben Thomas Powell, Betty Rhea Malone, Billy Joe Allison, Don Bass and I. Those were happy years with all their happy experiences and wonderful teachers who guided us through the "tender years. " Time passed and soon we were in Junior High, which was different from our first years of school, At first we felt quite lost with all of those upper classmen, but soon learned their ways and got along with them very well. As Freshmen in 1951 surely we felt we knew about all there was to know but as "Silly Sophomores" we found we had a great deal more to learn before going out to meet the world on our own. As "Jolly Juniors" we were beginning to think of the future. Some of the outstanding things happen- ing were the Junior-Senior Banquet, selecting our rings, electing our class officers. Again time rapidly passed and now we are Seniors. This year has been packed with many exciting things, such as: receiving our class rings, electing class officers, electing annual staff, electing paper staff, Junior-Senior Banquet, sports, publishing "The Purple Tiger", class play and Commencement exercises. Soon we shall be graduating. To our sponsors, Miss Elwe Griffith and Mr. P.L. Gott, and the entire faculty, we thank you for your wonderful guidance during our school days. To each '55 senior, face the future the way you have faced these past 12 years and I know you can't go wrong. - f ly X. ,,:l,,, it 4 ' - ,. ,xii ,J Fr W - E' V,Eyil'4f3'!Hls-:Lu 1 I sili 1, Peggy La Fevor Historian 'W be WM ' as ff -L , 'fsxsgwgjf' Q, 1. 1- ,,a:'st3 .lv-rx if CLASS POEM United we stand, divided we fall, United we've stood though the number was small: Together we've lived these past few years And the thought of departure brings sorrow and tears. Many happy days we have spent here As we struggled on from year to year: But the time has come when we must depart And a new era in our lives will start. There is work to be done, this work we will dog We will do much before our lives are throughg There is a world to conquer and wars to fight, There is the old to change and the wrong to make right May this class of fifty five be a success tomorrow: May there be much happiness and very little sorrowp May our deeds blossom forth like a blooming flower, And we will offer our thanks to a higher power. Now we are leaving, where will we go? We all have plans, but we don't know. We are leaving here with ambitions high, Schoolmates, Teachers and Friends--good by. Mack Corley Class Poet CLASS MOTTO: United we stand, divided we fall. CLASS COLORS: Red and White CLASS FLOWER: Red Rose PROPHECY OF THE It was the year 1965--ten years after I graduated from Watertown High School. As I sat in my living room one afternoon, my mind began to wander back to old W. H. S. and my classmates of '55, I decided that I would look up my classmates to see what they had chosen for their life's vocation. After quite a bit of inquiring, this is what I learned: Eleanor Roberson, the quiet girl in our class, is operating a beauty salon in Statesville, Tennessee. Ben 'I'homas Powell soon gave up the ideal of progressive farming and became the editor of the Lebanon Democrat. One morn-ing as I was passing the high school building, I saw quite a few of my classmates. I learn- ed that Billie I. Kyle was teaching shorthand, Harold Taylor was teaching chemistry, Don McClanahan, American History, and Doyle Gannon occupied the principal's chair. As I glanced through the Nashville Banner that aftemoon, I saw these words: "A Great Revival to Be Held at the Vanderbilt Stadium. " I read on. Don Hudson was to be the Evangelist and Elbert Mathis was to direct the congregation in singing. As I turned the page, my eyes caught the glimpse of a familiar face. Yes, it was Douglas Cluck. Under the picture were these words, "Baseball Champion. " The First Baptist Church was the scene of a wedding the following day--that of Betty A. Malone and Don Bass. Gerald Cowan and Jimmie D. Sherrill are old bachelors now. They can be seen in town every Sat- urday afternoon. Homer Snyder is a very successful mechanic in Lebanon. if , 1 GF' , nw 7 'I'here is a sign at Linwood that reads: "Beard and Tribble Fnmeral Home. We offer you the best. Mack Corley is a Private Detective in New York. Billy Joe Allison still lives at Buckeye Corner. Callie Mae Williams stars as Myrtle in "What Are You Waiting For?", and Roy V. Murphy stars as Dick. J. W. Murphy is selling tombstones to make a living now. Harold D. Johnson is the doctor in Watertown now. Betty R. Malone is a famous nurse in Texas. Peggy LaFevor is a cashier at the Commerce Union Bank in Lebanon. Jackie Wright has a home in Alexandria, and has learned to sing Rock-A-Bye Baby well. Jessie R. Russell is a seamstress. Richard Donnell is a car salesman for Keatts-McDowell 85 Co. One night as I passed Oma Lee Baines' house, I heard her praying. "Lord send me a man", she said. An old owl was sitting in the tree. "Who-ooo" he said. "Just anybody, Lord, just anybody", she said. The story goes, "The best of prophets of the future is the past.
