IUI Society The National Honor is a school and community service organization comprised of a distinguished group of juniors and seniors who previous- ly demonstrated a higher level of character, scholarship, service and leadership. The NHS meets monthly and tutors students throughout the year. This year's NHS was busy in many areas. They continued to spon- sor a young Philippine girl named Emily. In the fall the group initiated a school grounds landscaping project, held their annual induction ceremony and reception, and ran the candy cane-o-gram sale. At Christmas the members participated in the com- munity caroling organized by the w r- A, Nike Club. Each year two senior members are selected to compete as semi-finalists in the NHS National Scholarship competition, which awards $1000 scholarships for the studentsi freshman year in college. The 1986-87 Math Team MATH TEAM The Math Team participates in the Central Jersey Math League iCJMLl which holds 8 contests per year at local schools. They also participated in the New Jersey Math League iNJMLl which holds 6 contests per year in our own school. The CJML contests are usually the first Wednesday of each month from Oc- tober to May, while the NJML con- tests are usually the first Tuesday of each month. In the January CJML contests the Math Team was fifth overall out of 26 schools. At the conclusion of the year, the highest scoring participant from each school receives a CJML award. Students who participate in 6 of the 8 contests receive a Certificate of Merit. If a student is among the top scores in the league she or he also receives appropriate recognition and is eligible to participate in the ARML, a regional math contest for schools in NJ and neighboring states. This years Math Team was led by Ms. Camporini, who commented, llThis year's group strove to achieve meritorious positions within all the league participants.
