Determination Kept Freshmen Ahead Of The Game The 1986 Girls' Freshmen Softball team worked hard to end their season with a 9-7 record. They didn't have anything handed to them, making it that much more difficult to keep ahead. Yet they pushed through, showing a great improvement and winning their last five games of the season, recalled Coach Kaye. After all their hard work, the players were more than ready to receive their well deserved awards. Claire Freeman was honored with the MVP award. Lisa Dziadzio - Most Improved, Karen Derr a Best Offense, and Blythe Knapp - Best Defense. When asked what was his most memorable moment of the season was. Coach Kaye stated. Our softball marathon - great food, lots of fun - 7 hrs. of softball, showing that not only did these girls work hard. but they played hard too. Jen Kimmel didn't let this one get by!

Marching Band This year's marching band was advised by Mr. David Udell and Mr. Bill Holmes. Among the songs played this season were Russian Easter Overture, uDance Macabre, llOverture to Carmen and the '1812 Overture. The marching band consists of students who register for the band class and any students who play an instrument and desire to be part of the marching band. As part of their many hours of practice, the students attended a band camp held one week before the opening of school. The purpose of this camp was to teach the members the new music and routines for the season's shows. - When asked about the marching bands future, Mr. Udell replied, llWe foresee growth for the future in terms of size and musicianship. This year has seen the development of a solid core in the music program, and this core is providing strong student leadership. The band program also has become a positive social organization for all its members. Rn Artiui'ine Band seniors are called forward during the Thanl halftime show in recognition of their service and sp 4 Wm: Drum majors Dennis Hwang and Linda Wang.
