The 1986 Girls' Varsity Softball team had a record breaking season with fourteen wins; their most wins ever! Their overall record also top- ped all those of the past years, being 14-9. All this can be contributed to an excellent team made up of a host of extremely talented athletes. The end of the year saw the players with awards to take home. Lori Falzarano received the MVP award, which was greatly deserved after performing such feats as two no-hitters against Hunterdon Central and Pingry. Other team members who reaped the awards of their talent were Maria Wellbrock - Coaches Award, Nancy LaPorta - Player of the Year, Ellen Vagelos - Best Defense, Jacque Haskell - Most Improved, and outstanding freshman member Beth Niesmertelny - Best Offense. Coach Kanach was proud of the girls' fine performance, and recalled beating Voorhees 1 to 0, especially since Voorhees was in the top 20 of the state, as his most memorable moment of the '86 season. . a V l- A Varsity Softball Tops Their Past Re Maria Wellbrock waiting for the right pitch. At the end of the season there were a host of awards to be presented. Senior Debbie Bruno was awarded with the coveted MVP award, with Chris Centamore - Most Improved, Sue George - Best Offense, Leitha Miner a Best Defense, and Tina Marino - The Coaches' Award.
