264 DeElz'ak Contributions Remembered For over 18 years, Mrs. Edna DhElia was an outstanding member of the high school faculty. She served as the department chairperson until it was grouped with the Related Arts Department in the late 705. In 1973, Mrs. D'Elia started Co-operative Education at the Hills. The nursery school set up by Mrs. DhElia was the first of its kind in the state, and still serves as a prototype for new nursery schools today. As an active professional, she was a member of the American Home Economics Association and the New Jersey Home Economics Association, as well as a member in NBA and its local affiliates. As a member in NJHEA, she helped develop the guidelines for the selection of Teacher of the Year. Her personal life was equally fulfilling. She raised 8 natural and step-children, and was active in the local A.A.U.W., being its only graduate member. She was a member of the Lioness Club, as well as an outstanding professional and business woman. Mrs. DhElia was a graduate'of Hood College and received her masters degree from Rutgers in Home Economics. Mrs. Edna D,Elia will be remembered as a very positive and vivacious woman who, despite her health problems, never gave up.
