Sophomore Curt Carbonetti e 4310 SOPhomore Rick Platt - 41'6 While most sports have an individual superstar, the Watchung Hills Cross Coun- try team was an exception. The warrior harriors ran as a team in every meet, and individual glory was sacrificed. The gut determination of the leaders of the team inspired its other members, as virtually unknown warrior runners surfaced to the top. This team effort turned a seemingly disastrous season into a victorious one, with the warriors winning five of their last six meets. Cross Country can be considered one of the loneliest sports, as there isnit anyone to cheer you on as you pass by, for spec- tators are a rarity. The courses are long and often absurd. It is a common occur- rence for a cross country course to include creeks, narrow paths, steep hills, deserted roads, fallen trees and other assorted hazards. The training is hard and often trying, because practices and meets are never cancelled due to rain or a muddy course. The cross country runner just learns to live with these slight incon- veniences because running provides him with a way to get away from the bustle of everyday life. This escape makes it all worthwhile. 82

Senior Mike Fetchko v Basketball Juniorcmwko 72-73 Although the Warrior basketball team did not appear to have had a ver reductive season in the . . won-lgstpcolumns, it did gain the Senior ROM Seipel respect of opposing teams in our conference. The Warriors were described as being an extremely tough team to beat, and they were never taken lightly or thought of as a sure win? Looking at the final results of each game proves this, as one will find that only a few baskets separated; the winners from the losers. The lettermen who will not be returning next season look back on the season and remember the game efforts and determination they exerted against much tougher opponents. Those letter- men who will be returning, Dave Jones, Cary Fetchko, John Strand, and upcoming freshman Glen Gray will greet the new sea- son with a new coach because Mr. Kinum decided to resign as head coach after the season had ended. It was a long season, but the Warriors can be proud of the results.
