Spirit and Smiles . . . Most School Spirit Sharon Davis and Ron Foster Sbyest Nancy Roller and Ron Hachey Ron believes that whatever activity a person participates in at school, he should give 1007b effort. Involvement can bring not only school recogni- tion, but the satisfaction of knowing youlve given the best you can. Some of Ronls activities during his four years at Watchung include bas- ketball, track, baseball, and the Reach Out Club. After graduation, he plans to attend college where he will pursue a liberal arts course. Sharon believes that in order for our athletes at W.H.R.H.S. to have a winning season, they must have support from the student body. Football and Basketball seem to be the most popular sports at Watchung Hills. She says I feel that more spirit and support should be given for all the sports because each one involves a lot of time and hard work, and deserves the same credit. Go to the games and show your interest and support. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm?

J-E-L-L-O! Watchung Hills experienced its first Jello Eating Contest on February 7. Eight pairs of contestants: Jim Sullivan and Nancy Brandes, Suzy Molyneux and Bruce Eaton, Peter Bar- rett and Wendy Hoffman, Wendy Calvin and Sue Tucker, Larry Varnerin and Karen Minifie, Phil Davis and Jan Kobryn, Brian Steelman and Barbara Barnhurst, and Jeff Millwater and Nancy Roller took part in the Junior spon- sored contest. The goal of each contestant was to consume eight cups of jello as quickly as possible. Larry Varnerin with the help of his partner, Karen Minifie, who diligently fed him, downed eight cups of jello in five minutes -- thus winning the contest. Perhaps just as the pie eating contest has become traditional with the seniors, the jello-eating contest will become an annual junior event. 28
