WHR Faces the Issues During the month of October, the History Department, under the leadership of Mrs. Kestenbaum sponsored two lecture-and-discus- sion periods on the political issues of the 1972 election. On Octo- ber 19th, Mr. Bowen, Democratic candidate for the House of Rep- resentatives, spoke to WHRHS students about Senator McGovernts stands on political issues. The following day, Senator Bateman, the President of the New Jersey State Senate, spoke on President Nix- on,s views. The most impressive parts of the assemblies were the question- and-answer periods. The students were quite responsive and their questions sparked others to participate. For most students, these assemblies were informative and worthwhile events. As a result of Mrs. Kestenbaumts interest, and the quality of the voter education program as developed at Watchung Hills, Mrs. Kestenbaum has been asked by the Multi-District Institute of Political Science, a branch of the State Department of Education, to serve on a state wide evaluation committee. The purpose of the evaluation is to improve and strengthen the program for future distribution to additional schools in the state. The Powder Puff Game '72 On October 22, the sen- ior girls swamped the junior girls in a rousing game of football at the Municipal Grounds in Warren. Both teams were fairly even, sport- ing both a good offense and defense. Meg Watts, as quarterback, along with Ginny Jayne, produced the gamels only score - 18 points for the seniors. Debbie Thomforde and Judy Snyder displayed good blocking against the juniors. Offensively, and in vain, Amy Casale and Mary Roan exhibited good play for the juniors. Maybe, next year they will do better as seniors.
