Victory Over East The Warriors opened their 1972 football season with a stunning upset over Bridgewater Raritan East by the score of 10-8. The victory ended Bridgewateris 34 game winning streak which was the longest in the state at the time. . Watchung opened the scoring on a 1 yard run by Peter Doyle who had a great day overall w1th 143 yards rushing. Bill Seme kicked the extra point making the score 7-0. Just before the first half ended, Seme came on again to kick a 28 yard-field-goal, which widened the Warrior margin to 10-0. The Warriors were able to hold off East with some great defensive plays as they came up with 4- interceptions including 2 by Cliff Har- wick. The result was holding East to just one touchdown on an 83 yd. run by their quarter- back. This victory over a highly touted team pushed the Warriors lo the 16th position in tho stau- football rankings. the highest they have boon in 5 years. i

Warriors Rally Before The student body gladly accepted the shortened periods which traditionally accompany the pep rally. The rally was held on the day before the Warriors7 Season opened, and although one was not required to participate, the majority of the student body and faculty attended. 0n the field the Cheerleaders began the rally with their familiar exhibition, which was followed by the presentation of the 1972 Varsity football team and a short address by our principal, Dr. Sabo. The football squadas co-Captains Jim Jimeson and Kevin Williams both gave short speeches promising a good game and more importantly, a victory for Watchung Hills. Charged up, the students leave the pep rally, to return Saturday. l2

'JY'V , 1' Ind , KK The Freshman Assem- bly held this year on September 281b, gave the freshmen a chance to meet and hear their candidates for Presi- dent. Vice-President, and ASC representa- tive. The candidates for President were E. Jane Hayden, Todd Phillimore, and Linda Sullivan; Vice-Presi- dent, Sue Abbatt, Eric Ewert, Aileen Pocok, and Pam Strulle; ASC representative Chris Wyeude. Most of the candi- dates spoke to the Assembly. In each of their speeches, the candidates gave the group an idea of them- selves as a person, as a student, and as a leader. They all expressed a sincere desire to help the class of ,76 and prom- ised to do their best if elected. l4
