3332. I LCDR J.T. Niedbala VAW-121, Detachment 18 provided WASP with Eyes of the Fleet. Flying the E-1B Tracer Qmore commonly called Willy Fuddl, the four-man crews consisting of pilot, co-pilot and two air controllers afforded the vital link between airborne anti- submarine forces and WASP, The FUDD also provided WASP with radar search Qfor surface surveillance, submarine snorkle and periscope detectionb, automatic and manual radio relay as well as radar relay QBELLHOPJ. BELLHOP gives the force commander a greatly extended radar horizon for better control of surface and airborne forces. The FUDD controllers monitor aircraft, provide safety of flight information, and steer them home if required.
