The Man I The School
This building bears
the name of X
George Washington

a patriot, statesman
And hero of enduring fame
who sought no glory
But his country's good.
Few of us ever stop to read these words inscribed on a tablet
inside the south entrance to our school.
Seldom do we give thought to the man for whom our school
is named. Yet, it is good that 'this school plant bears the
name of our first President and one of our greatest states-
men. The qualities which he possessed have endeared him
to all A ricans. Perhaps your short stay with us at Wash-
ington JI?-ior High has helped you to cultivate some .Aof his
worthwhile characteristics - loyalty to American institutions,
perseverance in the face of failure, fidelity to honorable
people and to righteous causes, and a genuine belief in
iustice for all.
