Special Mention Some students deserve special mention. Among these are members of the National Junior Society, chosen after this book went to press; students receiving straight A ' s; white letter winners; and members of the All State Band. Honor Society candidates must have a 3.6 average of all subjects for seventh and eighth grades, be students at Irving during the whole time, and be recommended by all of their teachers. These white letter winners received at least 300 points during their first year and half at Irving. This is quite difficult, because points are hard to earn. The President of the SCA earns only 20 for his job. The all State Band is made up of students from all over the state. Each school nominates seven for the honor, and a panel of band directors holds auditions and selects performers. This year six of our seven candidates were chosen. The Pep Band, shown below, is a group that performs at basketball games and similar affairs. Pep Band
