ON THE GRIDIRON The football season though less successful than previous ye ns produced some of the most spnnted play the fans have wltnessed for sever xl seasons The openmg game of the season was played wxth Spxmgfleld Centml Cwthollc whose recold and experxence was above average The LIONS fought hald but were no m Itch for the Tornadoes 1nto thelr terrttory but still lacked the experlence 'md punch to scoxe The Wllmlngton game opened the South Central League season with Hamllton and Scott from the opposmg team constantly breakxng through our defense In thls con test Captain Kelly sustamed a badly myured knee whlch proved bothersome fox the remamder of the schedule Th1S game was played ln honor of the annual Dads Nlght celebratlon The-next week our boys played at Chillicothe. On the field the Lions drove deep

SENIOR PLAYERS As the Semor Class leaves the portals of Washmgton Hlgh School fans must say goodbye to slx varslty players Captam Rlchard Kelly C255 Though Dlck had a bxt of hard luck that tr1ed to drag h1m back hes stayed out m front m what we call magmfxcent playmg Dxck proved to be a versatlle center W1ll1am Rudduck C265 Beels the guy who went on the f1eld not to play a game but to wm a game Hes the fellow who called plays and s1gnals An xnjured knee was B1lls gzft of the season but h1s perslstence and ab1l1ty to run pass long ones and put the punts where they belonged brought us through many a tough spot Stephen Kellough C245--Steve proved to be a great asset to our team as he capably handled both guard and center posltlons He has a certaln way of gettlng mto the other teams way when lt counts most Donald Hosklns C225 Th1S was Dons flrst year out but he made up for lost tlme by showlng our opponent what a good tackle can do both on offense and defense Ralph Mlchael C415 In the usually unheralded posltlon of guard Ralph brought fame to hlmself as he opened paths for Washlngton ball carrlers Lmcoln Schwart C305 In tackle pos1t1on Llnk gave a flne performance unt1l a broken hand drove h1m to the sldellnes Our opponents would have stacked up many more touchdowns had not Llnk made those hard tackles hlt where they were almed These semors made up a flne team and we wele proud of them A group of boys who can work together wlth such cooperatlve sp1r1t w1ll certalnly go places ln this world 7 , . , . . . . , . . . , . - A Y . , . . . . , .
