IN MEMORIAM For more than three decades Mr. Harry O'Neil was an English teacher at Washington High School. Through his vast knowledge of English literature, he developed in his students an appreciation for this splendid heritage. Also, being a native of New England, he was able to stimulate an atmosphere of Early American Life into his classroom discussions. Washington owes a great debt to Mr. O'Neil, for it was he who wrote The Efiicient Pupil, reprinted in our Handbook, and who in 1923 organized the school band, which he directed for many years. He was recog- nized throughout the city as an expert trumpet player, having been featured as a soloist in the Music Under the Stars concerts. Through his ardent interest in spelling and his friendly, sincere service, the memory of Mr. O'Neil will live in the annals of our school. H, D. O'NEIL IN TRIBUTE We say Au revoir but not Goodbye to these well loved teachers who have passed through the portals of our school and are now enjoying lives of leisure. During the past year we have missed their smiling faces and kind words and have come to realize how much of an inspiration and example they have been to us. Washingtonians will not soon forget the outstanding service of these veteran teachers. Many an engineer and architect has been grateful to Mr. Edward Berg for the skill acquired in mechanical draw- ing and metal work, His name will always be remembered as the composer of our Fight Song and the football spe- cialty Bless Them All, as well as our Alma Mater. All Tonians sincerely join in wishing him many happy days of pleasure in his garden, of which he is so proud. The prom ceremonies with their processional, court of honor, and crowning of the King and Queen were first developed under the direction of Mrs. Alma Boundey. For years she was the faculty chairman of auditorium programs and assistant director of the Washington Players. Through her personal interest in her students she shared liberally of her rich cultural background. May she enjoy many more years of extensive reading and travel! With the disappearance of Room 210 last june went also the cheerful smile and witty tongue of Mr. Guy T. Cook, the homeroom teacher. His friendliness tempered with discipline combined to make reasoning and exact- ness his trademark in the teaching of congruent triangles and the sum of x -1- y. May his new Chevrolet take him to Florida and many other favorite spots in the U.S.A.! BERG BOUNDEY COOK
