Before coming to Wash- ington in 1920, Mr. Hagberg taught in Puerto Rico and the Philippines. His tales of his life there, as well as his guidance in Spanish and mathematics, wielded an inspiring and helpful influence on his pupils. He developed in his stu- dents clear thinking and practical ap- plication of their subjects. For many years he served as faculty advisor of the Nature Study Club, and later as head of the biology department. By re- lating personal experiences and teaching in a practical manner, he held the interest and enthusiasm of his classes. His stu- dents not only garnered a good under- standing of the various phases of biology, but became his personal friends.
