Elass J-lzktazy Fifty-seven of us assembled in various little groups in front of W.H.S. on September 4, 1951. Later as we met in the school auditorium, the youngest members of the student body, we were conscious of the stares of the upperclassmen, and were even more aware of the butterflies in our stomachs. Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Bloodsworth were our class sponsors that year. In February we presented our first school assembly program entitled, We Hold These Truths, which was most successful. How quickly that year passed! September 1952 found us back in school with Miss Warren and Mrs. Scott as our sponsors. Down in history we went-the first Eighth Grade to hold a dance. We called it May Fiestaf' In April 1953, we traveled to St. Mary's jr. College. to witness the pageant, The Birth of Tolerance. Two new teachers were our sponsors in the Ninth Grade, Mrs. Chamberlin and Mr. Evans. During that year, outstanding, was the trip to Washington, D.C.g our Valen- tine Dance, Heart of My Heart,', and our assembly program, a minstrel, At a Camp Meeting. Our Sophomore Year began with a dance, The Autumn Hop. In late winter of that year we gave the play, The Liberty Tree. That year, too, most of us were sixteen and we got our driving licenses! Almost, but not quite! JUNIORS! Christy was our President, with Bobby Fitzgerald, Barbara Matthews, and Walton Alder as the other class officers. Important events of this year were our dance, junior Jaunt, and our trip to Gettysburg. Then,-THE PROM! Held on May 11th it was one of the prettiest ever given! It was called, Bal Parisienne, and the decorations represented a sidewalk cafe in Paris. Surely, THAT was a night to remember! Mr. Gaddis and Mrs. johnson were our sponsors that year. SENIORS! Our officers were Gary Bounds, President, Richard Smith, Vice President, Gloria Bowman, Secretary, and Eleanor White, Treasurer. Christy was selected Queen of the Livestock Show. Bobby Fitzgerald was Student Council President. Walton and Christy organized the Yearbook Staff and we were on our way. Class rings arrived on October 28th. The final dance to be given by our class, entitled Dream Whirl, was one of our most successful. The Night Before Christmas was the theme of our Christ- mas formal. On january 23rd we journeyed to Annapolis to see our Legislature in action. Days and weeks seemed to fly by. May had come, and with it the junior-Senior Prom! Caps and Gowns! Commencement! With diplomas in our hands, we left the platform as Graduates of Washington High School-our hearts full of shared experiences and memories to be cherished always.
