Thts was 1tl We had now attamed our long sought for goal to be a Semor Wlthour new sponsors Mrs Ptttman and Mr Leckey we elected class offrcers as follows Presrdent Maunce Bozman V1ce Presrdent Pam Bond Secretary Drane Barnes Treasurer Betty Sturgrs Class rrngs were ordered and awarted for wtth anxlety Our frrst actrvrty of the year was a Harvest Dance and wtth a floor show and other added features the evening proved a gala affair A part of the class attended Semor Day at the Unrverstty of Maryland A tour of the Campus drnner and an exciting football game were some of the hrgh lrghts ofthe trip We satd goodbye to four more class members Frances Poly ette Irene Evans Dot Fagan and Bunk Evans who took the tnp to the altar Next on the 11st was the Chrrstmas Dance when from out of the yuletrde confus sron we managed to reserve one ntght to enjoy ourselves chnstmas also meant the annual Chnstmas assembly always grven by the Semors whrch rncluded a play and Santa w1th all hrs gtfts With the new and final year we decrded to grve a Semor Class Play whrch proved to be a great success Seruor Day at S T C was looked forward to and attended by most of the members of our class The last social event of the year was the Jumor Semor Prom whrch we will always remember w1th fond memorres as one of the happrest rughts of our l1ves Before we knew II we were pracucmg for graduatlon and then the long trekwas over and we were rnarchtng down the arsle diplomas clutched 1n hand toward the new lrfe ahead , Orff I .asia . . . wt' How btg Washmgton High School looked to us that ftrst d y rn September 1946 as we enbarked on our new adventure How we envred the upper class men who knew thetr way about and had that air of having the srtuatron well tn hand Our sponsors that frrst year were Mrs Payne and Mrs Bloodsworth who qulckly set us on the right path and soon we were part of the crowd We gave our first assembly aplay entrtled THECOURTSHIP OF MILES STANDISH, The year passed quickly with the many act1v1t1es The next year our new sponsors were Mlss Warren and Mr Barrle We were tntroduced to Core that year whrch sounded very mystrfytng to us at frrst but proved to be just a new method of teaclung old subjects Our annual assembly was based on the theme OUR SOUTH AMERICAN NEIGHBORS whrch we studred rn th1s new core Soon tlus year was over and we were begxnmng our last year of Iunxor I-hgh It was rn our freshman year that we organtzed as a class and wrth the help ofour sponsors Mrssllolland and Mr Phrllrps we gave our frrst dance a Sprrng Jubilee We also gave our frrst strawrrde whtch proved to be a great success When we came bac' to school rn the fall of 1949 we chose our courses and settled downto real work Under the drrecnon of our sponsors Mr Phtllrps decorations A large number of our class orgamzed rnto a s1ng1ng group and we entertarned at the Future Farmers of Amerrca banquet Parent Teachers meenngs and at commencement We were proud to have Shrrley Lankford chosen queen of the Future Farmers of Amerrca Annual lrvestock Show but sorry to lose her soon afterwards when she left school to be marrred We were saddened by the death of one of our teachers Mlss Mary Lu Chamberlrn She w ll long be remembered by everyone We looked forward to the followtng year when we would be Jumors Th1s was to be a brg year We found our sponsors to be two new faculty members M1ssDolbeare and Mr Cresson Our f1rst socral event a barn dance proved a brg success Our next effort was our Jumor Mrnstrel wluch we are proud to say we wrote ourselves entrtlmg tt lt Happened At The Sunglow Our class took honors 1n the County Declamatron contest wtth Drane Barnes and Brlljames wrnmng the grrls and boys honor respecttvely The hrghltght of the year was the Junror Semor Prom Pat Hall and Teddy Evans were crovsmed Queen and Ktng of the affatr and to the mustc of the Metronomes we danced the evenmg away Cathenne Peterman was elected presrdent of the Student Counctl We felt that she would be most competent and successful rn the Job Weddmg bells rang for three more members of our class Carley Camp Ioan Hardrng and Cora Lou l-lopkrns Thus we ended a very actrve and mterestxng year L l 1 1 Q .
