22 ACADEMICS Mr. Verne Cook is the sponsor of the senior class. He teaches speech. He graduated from the University of Arizona and he did his graduate work at Arizona State University. During college he won the University Player Award for the best actor. Mr. Cook has traveled extensively throughout the world. Mrs. Dorothea Benner, who also teaches German, is teaching English 5-6. She is sponsor of the German Club. 115- - Mr. Ronald C.. Murphy, who is teaching U.S. Govern- ment and English 5-6, has spent four years at WHS. He sponsored the Student Council and the senior class. He attended Gorham State College and Arizona State University and gained special honors as the Newman Honor Society and the Who's Who in American Uni- versities and Colleges. English Makes the World More Real Mr. Percy Totheroh teaches average and accelerated sophomore English. He graduated with a M.A. from ASU. During college he was a member of the Debate team and president of Secondary Council and a member of Honor Society. Mrs. Anne Watrous teaches English 1-2, 3-4. She is also the sponsor of the '63 Panorama. This is her first year at Washington High School.

DON ENGELBRECHT Mr. Engclbrccht teaches English 3-4 and T-8. He is the sponsor of the Hi-Y Club. Mr. Engelbrecht has attended Concordia College, New York, Valparaiso University, Indiana, YVashington State University, and Arizona State University. He holds a B.S. with honors, B.A. with High Distinction and an M.A. Mr. Engel- brccht is presently working toward his P.H.D. MR. RICHARD K. MORSE Mr. Morse teaches English 1-2 and 5-6. Mr. A. Joe Ausere sponsors the Spanish Club and teaches Spanish 3-4 and 7-8. He attended Arizona State University and Phoenix and the Universidad Nacional de Mexico, Mexico City. Mr. Ausere was a member of the Alpha Mu Gamma. This is his sixth year of teaching at WHS. Mrs. Betty Prosser teaches Latin 1-2 and 3-4. Presently she is working towards her Masters at Arizona State University. She attended the University of Illinois. Mrs. Dianne German teaches French 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6. She is the sponsor of the French Club. She received her B.A. from the University of Arizona and graduated with general honors. Mrs. German is presently working toward her Masters of Art at the University of Arizona. She has taught at Wash- ington for two years. Dorothea 0. Benner teaches German and English. She is the sponsor of the German Club. Miss Benner attended Moravian College, Bethlehem, Pa. and Cor- nell University, Ithaca, N.Y. and graduated with an A.B. and A.M. This is her sixth year at Wash- ington. Mrs. Josephine Grundy is presently teaching Spanish. She attended the University of Arizona. Mr. Fredick Woods is a graduate of Arizona State University.
