Of A Senior Year Of Traditional Activities Gloria Biebuyck, a senior from homeroom 519, reigned as the Washington football queen in the 1961 Washington-Riley Roundup. Although the staging was different, the Washington-Riley Roundup still fostered friend- ship and established good sportsmanship between Washington and Riley. The Roundup bef gan on Thursday, September 14, with Riley playing host to Washington in their own back yard. Rich Kraft and the Riley football co-captains lit the bonfire which signified the spirit of the Roundup. Tension mounted as the court awaited the crowning. After speeches by Principal MacNamara, Coach Roggeman, and sports announcer Jim Wilson of WSBT, the court was announced by Len Starczewski, Student Council president, and crowned by the cheerleaders. -19-
